Does anyone know about second avenue and the lower east side of Manhattan? My daughter, she is 26, tiny and petite, will be going there this evening to pick up a dog she is adopting. I want to make sure she will be safe, or should she go with someone?

Alphabet City, Avenues A,B,C, and D, is not the greatest neighborhood although it has changed a lot. Second Avenue is a lot better than Alphabet City. During the daytime, safe with an occasional flare up. If she's going in the evening, it's best if she goes with someone.

All of Manhattan is safe nowadays. Just use common sense and you'll be fine.

Edit: ignore the thumbs down. It was from "bigguy.' He said he hasn't lived in Manhattan for 20 years... a LOT has changed since then!

I'd be more worried about taking advice from someone who types in all caps than going down to the LES at night.

Your daughter will be as safe on Second Avenue as she will be anywhere else.

2d Ave. is a busy, well lit commercial street. It is fine.
