I took a speaker out of a dead amp to see if it would still work simply wired to my iPod, which it does meaning the amplifier board was blown/had malfunctioned in some way. I'm wondering if there is some simple way to improve the volume of the speaker via, possibly, an outside power source? I don't need the fancy bass/treble adjustments and such, and I can read circuit diagrams if someone could link me, that would be amazing.

You need to build a power amplifier

This is one link

but I am sure there are many sites that provide schematics for simple amplifiers (or you can just fix your dead amp.)
