i just had shoulder surgery and for some reason pain killers dont effect me much....morphine does absolutely nothing for me (i had gall bladder surgery last year and it didnt help), vicodin also does not help. my surgeon gave me oxycodone but that is not doing much either. I believe its a form of morphine, which would explain why it isnt working. Does anyone know of a pain killer that is not in the morphine or vicodin family that might be more effective?

Morphine does nothing for me either.

I had surgery last year and I found that Percocet took care of the pain quite nicely.

Be careful though when you ask your doctor to increase your pain med. dosage. You want to ask for more pain relief, you don't want it noted on your medical record that you're "asking for narcotics".

AND....as you probably know, most of those pain killers have the side effect of making you constipated. Pick up some medication to help you go as well.

Yours is not an uncommon problem, and it isn't the drug but the dose. Morphine especially is routinely underdosed.
