3 years ago at the age of 38 I woke up and realized I was extremely overweight. 5ft10in, 232 lbs, size 18. I also realized how I limited my activities because of so many things I couldn't do. I decided needed to make some drastic changes. I started eating a balanced diet, no fad diets for me, and exercise. When I started I could barely do a 2mile slow walk. And at 37 thats pathetic. I gradually went longer and faster, and after about a year I was able to run-well actually jog, 3and1/2 miles. I lost 62 lbs over the course of a year and a half. Slow and steady, I was told to take my time losing and it would be more likely to stay off.
Ok so I hit the weight of 170 a year and a half ago, and I am still there. I look good, but not great, somewhere between a size 8-10. I am pretty muscular, except for that dreaded stomache. I have tried mixing it up a little, added abs everyday, biking instead of jogging, etc. But I am stuck, any ideas.

As far as the diet, I don't stay away from fried foods, white flour, only whole grains. lean meats, and plenty of vegetables

Well im 5'6" and about 132. I dont have any weight problems really but I have noticed as I get older that every extra pound I have put on goes straight to my stomach. My stomach was already out of shape due to 2 pregnancies and 1 c-section and 2 other stomach surgeries. I weighed only 120 but had a hard time after all these things getting my stomach in shape. Now that im in my 30's and put on about 10 lbs its even worse. I have tried numerous things but they just dont seem to work. Outside of my belly I feel like I look pretty good. Part of me thinks about a tummy tuck from time to time but the other part has learned to live with it. We cant be perfect and if im pretty happy with the rest of my body and looks then I should be happy with myself. After all we are talking about women in our mid 30's and up..... were bound to have some scars that were left by life and good memories!

1] eat a 2/3 size meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; have a 100 calorie snack mid-morning and mid-afternoon, and a tiny treat [ 50 cal. ] right after dinner.
2] stick with lean protein; low fat dairy' whole grain bread, cereal, rice, and pasta; lots of plain fruits and veggies.
3] drink 1/2 gallon of water a day
4] don't eat or drink anything with calories 4 hours before bedtime
5] take a quality multivitamin with minerals every day
6] do 3 sets each of 10 reps: pushups, situps, obliques, and crunches
7] try pilates - you can get a tape fairly cheap, and it seems to work!

I would think at your height you aren't far off looking fabulous! Problem is, at our age it's harder, and if you've had children getting rid of that saggy stomach could be really difficult.

It sounds like you're doing the right things. Keep trying, stand tall, and maybe get some control pants for those special nights out.

I think you've done brilliantly. Be proud of what you've achieved.
