The majic is getting your tire pressure low enough to let the tires float on the sand. A very standard practice. We use from 10~12 lb's on heavier Jeeps.

I've found that the lighter vehicles do better because they aren't trying to sink in the sand as fast.

That is why sand rails / dune buggies are always so minimal.

Yes it will do just fine with the 4WD, even the 2WD model will get through it if you know how to drive it correctly. Just do not spin the tires or you'll be walking.
