Opened a jar of tomato & basil pasta sauce, used half, kept the rest in the fridge with the lid on.. can't remember exactly how long it's been in there but maybe 10 days, 14 at most..
Just gone to use it without thinking then read the label 'after opening, refridgerate and use within three days'.

Seemed alright to me, what do you think?

No mould, and have checked under the lid... I wonder why manufacturer (Lloyd Grossman - delicious by the way) says eat within 3 days?

Well - we did eat it, and so far, we're fine!

Thanks for all your responses.

As long as it was in the fridge the whole time, I'd say you are perfectly fine.

I have kept pasta sauce in the fridge longer than that and eaten it before. I have never read that it is only good for 3 days. I would say if it is not moldy then your fine...

If it has a milk or cheese base,no,but if it is a tomato based sauce,it is iffy.I would toss it anyway because it is already past the recommended date.An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure.

If all you did was pour out of the jar (and not introduce a utensil or anything into the jar), you are probably fine w/ it 2 weeks under refrigeration.

Check under the lid... if ti's moldy there, ditch it. (well, recycle the jar)

It's fine as long as there is no mold. I don't know if I'd go the full two weeks, maybe a week to ten days to be on the safe side.

if it was in the fridge and there wasn't any mould and it smells like usual then it should be ok

the manufacturers just put 3 days to cover themselves- if they put anymore they couldn't guarantee it would last that long

Yes just make sure to cook it first and you should be fine! As long as there is no mold or has a "funny" smell!

I wouldn't use it if it has been there any longer than 14 days
Best rule of thumb -- when in doubt throw it out !!
