There is no best breed. It totally depends on the owner and the owners' circumstances. Do you have a yard? Is it a big or small yard? Do you live in a house or apartment? Do you have a lot of time to exercise your dog? How much time DO you have? Do you mind brushing your dog daily? Do you hunt? Do you jog? Do you have kids? How old are they? Do you have a lot of space? Do you care if your dog sheds or drools? Do you like big or small dogs? Do you live in the city or the country or suburbia? Do you want a house dog only? Do you have stairs in your house? Do you care if your dog is on the furniture? Do you want the dog for protection? Do you need it to perform a task? Do you want it to do tricks? What kind of tricks? How much money are you willing to spend on food and supplies?

You can't ask a question like this and expect only a few answers.
Although - I suggest you look up the "Dog temprement chart"
Use your common sence, if you have small children, perhaps a small dog. ETC

I like Austalian Shepherds because they're not too big, but not too small. But I like the short haired ones, with orangish brownish fur and white fur color. I met one last weekened and fell in love with it! But they need a lot of exersize.
