It's just one of the Universal Laws. Yes, it is literal. It's something that anyone can experiment with.

I think the book is a scam. It has been so successful because Rhonda Byrne and her publisher have done such a great job of marketing it. Truth is, however, that it is a plagiarism of dozens of self help books written in the past. I am amazed no one has sued her yet. Positive thinking can make your life better!? Wow! Who would have thought? Throw on top of that the fact that Rhonda Byrne has taken her allegedly new "theory" so far as to suggest that people massacred in Darfur and Rwanda could have avoided their fate by being more positive, and I have to conclude that she is pretty sick. Positive thinking is great, no doubt, but it isn't going to stop all pain and suffering in the world. Let me put it this way:
According to Byrne, if you think hard enough about something, believe it will happen, think positively about it, and visualize it... it will happen! Look at her success! It worked for her! Wow! Ok. Let's say 10 people show up at the grocery store at the same time, and there is one good parking spot left. All 10 of these people read "The Secret," and they visualize themselves getting that spot, and they believe it with all their heart. How many of them will get that spot? One of them. And that person will go around and tell everyone how great the book works. That is what Rhonda Byrne is like.
So that is what I think. I think that Rhonda Byrne is making millions off of the insecurity and bad circumstances of people everywhere, and I think that it is sick. Positive thinking is great, but you don't need to support that fraud woman to figure that out.

It's great to think positive...we'd go nuts if we didn't. However, being a Christian, I have a problem with turning everything internally, and not giving God the credit. Hello, the universe was not, sorry to say, set up specifically for you. I am offended by these new-age theory (all over again) that make these claims. If you recall correctly Adam and Eve's original sin was because they thought they could be on the same level as God. Hmmmm...... I just have to spew from the mountaintops--- I am not that important!!!! Perhaps to my husband, my kids, my parents, etc., but to assume this vast world was set up for my pleasure and happiness is far beyond me. How many egocentric and narcissistic people is this book going to create? What happened to the Bible? Please be wary of this, and give the glory where it belongs, not in the mirror.

It's just the "Prosperity Gospel" dressed up in secular garb. God/Reality is just one huge piggy bank just waiting for people to pray/believe enough that good things should come to them (regardless of merit) and it's open sesame. No need to bother with tedious work or worry about having to use such blessings in an unselfish manner. You deserve the good things in life simply because you're you (and you donated money to the ministry/bought the author's merchandise).

She took exerpts from ancient pagan concepts on the Laws of Attraction and didn't bother to teach about the rest of them, She packaged something up that you could've gotten for free.. called it all a "secret" to make tons of money, and people are buying into it left and right.

I think it can relate to other religions. You associated them with the bible because that's what you are familiar with.
I think it is meant figuratively.
