PLANES DONT FALL. Unless there is a major catastrophe like a wing falls off the tail breaks off or there is a huge explosion the plane is not falling.
An airliner at 37,000ft can glide with no engines for over 200miles! There is nothing to be afraid of.
Your chances of being involved in an aircraft accident are about 1 in 11 million. On the other hand, your chances of being killed in an automobile accident are 1 in 5000. Statistically, you are at far greater risk driving to the airport than getting on an airplane. However, the perception is that you have more control over your fate when you are in your car than as a passenger traveling on an airplane. Experience shows otherwise, considering that over 50,000 people are killed on the highways every year. Media coverage would suggest that airline crashes happen every day. Studies have shown one would have to fly once a day every day for over 15,000 years in order to statistically be involved in an aircraft accident"
Flying is very very safe. Don’t worry about terrorists that is the least likely thing to go wrong on a commercial flight in the US these days. Flying in the United States is very safe, there has not been a major airline crash in the US since November of 2001! That is a long time for no major crashes and only on fatality in the last seven years for the Major Airlines in the US.
Even when there is a problem on an airplane, if an engine fails on takeoff or an engine fire etc.. 99% of the time the plane lands safely. Planes these days are amazing piece of technology and the pilots are trained better than ever. If you not afraid to drive in a car you should not be afraid to fly in a plane.
Just sit back relax and try to enjoy the flight. Its one of the safest things you can do much safer than driving a car, walking down the street, or even sleeping in your house. More people have died on North American highways in the year 2006 than the amount of people who have died in powered flight aviation whole 104 year history!
Also the best way to completely get over your fears is go to you local General aviation airport and take flying lessons! Once you fly in a small airplane a few times and learn that airplanes fly and that’s all they do you will be much more confident with flying on commercial planes. You will learn a lot with a few flying lessons. I could even teach you a lot by just showing you my Microsoft Flight Simulator. Flying is a great experience, once you get used to it and learn what makes airplanes fly etc.. your fears go away trust me, I used to be a little bit scared to fly too. Now I LOVE it.

One cannot tell if a 45 min travel in a plane would be a mishap or not. No one can guarantee anything in this life. If you believe in Jesus Christ, that he can protect you, you can pray. I do that all the time because anything can happen. They say you are safer flying in an airplane than riding on the highway in an automobile (car).. When you fly, pray and then do not think about it while flying. Read a magazine or book, watch the movie they show, do anything you can to take your mind off flying and before you know it, you are there!

I would be lying if I said that planes never fail, just like anything esle they do.

However, statistics show that it is safer to fly than to drive. Cars have a much higher rate of failure per passenger mile. So look at it like you are actually safer in a plane. The accident rate is extremely small. It may be hard to convince you , but look at the figures and you'll feel better. In fact, look at the steward person's on board the plane. They have been flying everyday for years and years. They are still here.

You'll be fine, just relax. The more you fly, the safer you will feel. good luck.

I have a fear of flying myself, I know it's an unfounded fear but I still really don't like it. Especially the take-off. Love the landing though. It's the idea that I'm in an aluminum cigar tube at least five or six miles up, with a couple of guys I know nothing about driving the damn thing. Not to mention the hundred or so people with me in the tube. Who knows how many nuts are flying with me. Still the safest way to go though. Right.

When stepping onto a plane, no matter how long the ride, the risk of injury/death/fatality is always there. You just have to overcome this with the basic facts. Do planes have problems often: yes. Do these problems get resolved: yes. Do planes crash often: no. You just have to get over yourself and take the stand of either "god doesn't want it that way and i agree with him/her" or "i can think for myself and i decide to/not to go onto this plane" Sorry if i scared you any more, but just wanted to be honest...

More accidents happen in a car than in a plane. I always say a prayer befor I get on the plane and before we take off. If you trust God you should know he will keep you safe.

modern air travel is far safer than modern automobile travel. think of it like this, when airplane accidents start getting common enough to NOT make the news the minute they find out about it, and you don't find out about plane crashes in the newspaper until you get past the first few pages, then start to worry. besides, when your time to die arrives, there is nothing you can do to stop it. and if god decides you are going to die in a plane crash, and you are driving your car, he will drop a 747 on your car.

What are you afraid of? If you are scared of crashing, you won't feel it anyway - seriously. Don't look at it as something to be scared of, just enjoy it as sort of a thrill ride. Plus flying is safer than driving anyway.

They rarely just fall from the sky, if ever. Be a big boy/girl, suck it up and get on, hold on and enjoy the flight. sit near someone that has flown before and can assist you, make sure you have one of those puke bags handy too.....if you get motion sickness!
