When all I want to know about is what the bible is saying. It seems that the more questions I ask, the more they get angry. I once ask a man who was working at a church in Pacific Palisades, Ca. why they use the King James version of the bible? And he answered, in an angry tone. Because that is what we use!
Matthew 12:30 says that "he that does not gather with me scatters". He definitely pushed me away.
So, whats up with that? I have also been threatened with hell fire too. I thought it was God and his son who will do the judging? And who are these people who hand out small pamphlets. About pocket sized.
should'nt they clean themselves up before approaching me with Gods word. And more importantly, should'nt they learn to use the bible correctly so as to be understandable? Instead of just jumping around the scriptures like a machine gun fires bullets. RATT TAT TAT TAT TAT TAT TAT!!!
I do not want to listen to anyone who talks to me like that. MoredetailslaterasIreceiveanswers.

1SAINT TO GOD. this is what the scriptures have to say to your answer.
"sanctify the Christ as Lord in YOUR hearts, always ready to make a defense before everyone that demands of YOU a reason for the hope in YOU, but doing so together with a MILD TEMPER and deep respect".
As far as Jesus's righteous indignation. He had the right to be angry. These people were robbing the people with their out of sight prices right in the courtyard of the Temple. I just want answers. this does not make me a thief in the courtyard.

I am glad that you brought up Jehovah's witness. They are not the pamphlet people that I was talking about above. But these people are at peace with my questions, I remember I had a several pages of questions on note book paper for them. I remember when they first saw me approach them with my paperwork in hand... they were like;Gulp! But they kindly took the time and explained what I wanted to know. Now these people are nice. I should have mentioned them before. Because even when apposed by me they still did not react harshly. And they handle a bible very well.

You're right true Christians should do all they can to be as understanding and explanatory to a person that is not as familiar with scripture or Christianity and Jesus' teachings as he/she is.

The person that spoke with you in harsh terms about why his church used the KJV was wrong in his demeanor, simply because his behavior deterred you from your true purpose for being there in the first place.

There is no reason why this question should have brought on such a negative attitude. A person should question the church about its doctrine, beliefs and any other thing to make a sound determination in deciphering if this is the right church to gain a concise understanding of the true teachings of Christ.

Understanding of what this church's reasoning was for using certain paraphernalia is a viable question and should have been answered with a loving and understanding attitude.

And as for your being damned to Hell's fire, no one should have ever said that to you, because there is but One who knows who these people will be.

Yes, the good church folks should take out the log from their eyes before they attempt to take out your splinter.

I also agree with you about jumping around the scriptures. The scriptures are the learning tools that were placed here for us to use to get a better understanding of who God and His Son are and what is expected of us as His children. I believe that it should be read in full context, and not bits and peices here and there.

I suggest that you speak directly to the minister with your questions or find a church that actually practices what it preaches.

God Bless You

You seem to describe a penchant for defensiveness being exhibited by Christians who feel challenged by questions.

I don't really know why your experiences include this but can tell you that those of spiritual edification do not react thusly and if you can't obtain a civil answer to a legitimate question you are dealing with a problem with a person other than Christianity.

For example, I use the King James Bible because it has an excellent cross reference called Strong's Concordance which allows me to take a word back to the original Hebrew, Greek, or Aramaic so that I may discern the intent of the phraseology.

You're probably talking about Jehovah's Witnesses with the pamphlets. I used to be one. I remember all the preaching about us (the only true religion who will be saved) and them (the poor souls who refuse to listen to us and won't be saved). After I left the JWs, I realized that most of the other churches are saying the same thing about all the other religions.

It makes people feel more righteous and favored by God to believe this and be harsh towards outsiders. They don't want to miss out on paradise. I wish more churches taught that we're all loved by God and that everyone gets to go to heavan and there is no hell. Forgive them. We're all just children. Be righteous anyway.

Thats just they way we are taught to be. Our book doesn't hold up well to any skeptisism. It is a crazy book and is weird as hell. I have read it 42 times, and the more I read it the lamer it is. I left that book on the bus last time I read it. I decided that the words in that book are not Gods words. If they are, then who wants to follow him anyway. He is supposed to be a loving, and accepting god. For being so nice, he is awful mean and judgemental. Especially when you consider that HE put the curse of sin on us. Why would he be so mad at us for doing what he designed us to do? Jesus was totally awesome and loving. He wouldn't have approved, I am thinking. That book was written by many people over hundreds of years. The bible is nothing but a collection of manuscripts found hidden in the desert. You know how we find biblical texts even today? If they found them 1000 years ago, that would be in there too. Maybe christians would be banging themselves in the head with a board because god said that that was the proper way to worship and if you dont, you are going to BURN!

You would be better off not talking to "Real" Christians. Their minds are like childrens minds. You can only expect so much from them. I think we should view them the same way we do mentally retarded people: Unfortunate people who need our sympathy and support.

Christian people get angry because they are flawed human beings. If you look to people for your peace, joy, answers and happiness you are going to be very disappointed. It sounds to me like you need to find a good non denominational church that usually reads out of the NIV bible or the MESSAGE. You won't be disappointed with those versions. If someone threatens you with hell fire, turn and walk away. God is love. Jesus is love. Anyone that does not approach you in love has some serious spiritual issues that are not your problem. I hate to say it but you will find hypocrisy in the church and with some Christians. That doesn't mean all Christians have those same "flaws" so please don't judge all Christians because of a few bad experiences you have had. Give it another shot and surround yourself with true Christians who are level headed and will give you the support you deserve and need.

What a strange question. No one ever said that Christians were perfect. People get angry, Christian or not. Does it not anger you when you see someone getting hurt? The Bible tells us to be angry, but do not sin. Forget the people who come by with the hell-fire message. That's no way to win someone over, but rather a way to drive them away, screaming. We have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

HE hasn't pushed you away,,,,misguided PEOPLE are pushing you away. About the pamphlet pushers,,,look at the people Jesus himself walked with and preached to, not the cleanest. When listening to a sermon being preached,,,the preacher does jump around the scriptures......if you look in the Bible,(well if you have a study Bible) you will see scriptures (book, chapter&verse) written either after the verse in italics or parenthases or in the margin, or at the bottom of the page,,,it is other refrences that has to do with the same thing. So these people that jump around the scriptures are only teaching the scriptures.

I am sorry that you had such a bad experience with Christians. We serve a perfect God, and we are not perfect. But i take personal responsibility for those people pointing fingers and not proving God's love for you. I apologize for what they have brought you to think about the Lord and His teachings. Those who scatter are not loving as Christ taught us to love, you are right. Again, I am deeply sorry that you have been pushed away. Please know that the Lord Almighty loves you and sent His perfect Son Jesus Christ to set you free and live in that freedom forever. Please know that the example you saw in those people is not the example of the God that i love and serve.
Good luck searching and i pray you find what you find what you are looking for.

we are all human. God is a very touchy subject in all beliefs. theres been plenty of times ive gotten angry when one calls my God rapist, murder, and just flats out blame God. but i know you surely cant reach the "lost" showing anger instead of his mercy cuz they already feel hes a "bad" God. me personally hold my tounge back of what i really want to say. its been hard cuz i had already had a anger problem before rededication to him. but ive always felt even when living in sin you cant reach ppl from the wrath of God it has to be from his mercy and love that he has for ppl. i dont know who the ppl are that give out the pamplets, im sure they mean no harm. i dont necessarily agree with them standing on the street corners or going door to door but who can say their wrong? we can either let them in or say no thank you. being christian i see alot of so called christians that give his followers a really bad name. id say if they dont show the fruit, they re decieved themselves. try not to let the few bad apples ruin all. we are not ALL like that. oh the jumping around scriptures beware of that , ive had some approach me not knowing myself is a believer and they do take the bible out of context so it would say what they wanted for their purpose.

Christians, like all human beings, are people. They come from all walks of life and have many different struggles and weaknesses. Some of them have problems with anger. Others lack self-control and display a lack of wisdom. Some people claim to be Christians but aren't following after Jesus at all.

The Bible teaches that those who follow after Jesus will bear fruit in increasing measure. You should begin to see love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, faithfulness, and self-control in their lives. But you won't generally see all of these things immediately. Often a person will grow in one quality more visibly than in others for a while.

I think I grew most in faithfulness, patience, and peace early in my life and have seen God work more and more on gentleness, kindness, and love in the past few years. I look back at some of the attitudes of my heart from my earlier Christian life and am ashamed at the lack of compassion I had for other people. Because of that realization, I have much more grace now for believers who don't seem to "measure up" with what a believer should be.

Don't let other "Christians" be the measure of Christianity for you. We are called to follow after Christ. All the rest of us are imperfect and struggling and will fail and be bad examples at some point in our lives.

Blessings.
