Why indeed. The returning troops should be given every thing they need to re-enter normal life. Many of them have to struggle for everything . For those that return to civilian life, we should guarantee them jobs. Instead we are closing Veterans Hospitals. So many return with Post Traumatic Stress disorders and we don't have the personnel or facilities available to help them.

The thing that disturbs me most in recent months is the people who feel compelled to hold anti-war, anti-Bush demonstrations at the funerals of fallen soldiers. As if losing a family member isn't horrible enough, these jerks turn it into a political circus for their own agenda.

I quite agree. As a Civilian, I wish I could do something more.
After World War 2, Churchill said we would always remember our fallen so In the UK on 11th hour of the 11th day and the 11th month of every year we remember them, with a minute of silence at the designated time and various ceromonies. We buy and wear a bright red poppy (poppy represents the thousands who lost their lives in a poppy field in France during the war) The money from these sales goes directly to our Veterans. I have never seen anything here perhaps on veterans day we could sell yellow ribbons and make sure that the money raised goes to a cause that the soldiers themselves choose.....

Re comment from Ducky, they are fighting terrorists away from us so that we can get about our daily lives. Our soldiers are taking the fight to them. Sept 11th is an example of what a few terrorists can do.

One word: "Ignorance".

People have taken their freedoms for granted for so long, they believe no matter what, they will always have them. And so alot of people who are in key positions to help veterans, don't believe we should be treated any differently then any other person in America. Until we can get veterans back into the government, and educate the people of America of how their freedoms were payed for by the blood of Patriots, it will never change.

"WE" as in "We The People" do in fact treat the troops well.

Not sure how it is that you really think our Freedom is what the troops are fighting for. Do you really think a bunch of frigging Arab terrorists could take our freedom away ?
They can kill us from time to time, but it seems anti-American to say those bung-holes could take our freedom away.
The United States is far to great for that to happen.

As for the Government, I thought that they (for the most part) treated the troops pretty well.
I asked a Question here about that and all the Troops that answered said they had been treated pretty well by the Fed's.
Good News, Eh ?

There is always more money for machines than people.
Businesses buy new buildings and employees don't get raises. Schools buy new equipment but teachers don't get raises. Cities have money for new equipment but not for fire fighters or policemen. A little less money on gadgets and more for the front line people works for me.

Agreed! Regardless of what anyone thinks of our governments choices, these men should be seen only as Brave an Honerable. Nothing less. They earn it every single day.

Probably because the Commander in Chief is a yellow, draft dodging coward and demands personal responsibility from everyone but himself and his thugs.
