Lots of people witnessed it, it's New York City! Lots of people were out and about going to work or about their lives.
Everyone I know was affected by either someone having died or live through it by trying to get out of there.
It's a very surreal experience seeing a huge plane flying REALLY low coming right into a building.
But if the news and film footage isn't enough for you, or perhaps you didn't know about it, then I can see why you are asking this question.
By the way, this is still a very tender and emotional topic for many many people here who are living with the repercussions of 9/11.
There are plenty of witnesses, honey. My question is what's the point to your question?

didn't see the planes hit. That day I was in ft lee. I did see the towers on fire and watched them fall. I watched as all the emergency equipment in the area, fire trucks etc went across the gw bridge and went downtown, a really bizarre parade. . The streets along the river were closed to traffic and the ppl that I saw while walking around were all in shock. It was like a really bad dream/nightmare, but it was real. Why do you ask?

I was on the ferry from Hoboken to the world financial center when the first plane hit. The ferry kept going and dropped us off right there shortly before the second one hit.

My father claimed to be in the Douche Bank Building across the street from the WTC. He retired shortly after.

Only on TV. I'm in the UK. My daughter phoned when the first plane hit. I turned on my TV just as the second one was coming in. We still remember the absolute shock of seeing it live.

I was fishing on a jetty at Point Lookout when I saw thick black smoke bellowing from the west northwest. I remember a firefighter once telling me if it's white smoke, it's okay, if it's black smoke, that's trouble.
