Being drunk in the dream shows emotionally this boy wants to escape from some sort of responsibilities. Subconsciously he knows he can't do in reality, and so he vented it out in dream and tried to see what it looks like in the dream world.

It means he is not soberly aware of things going on around him. I mean in real life he can be sober, but totally unaware of issues, troubles, and dangers which surround him.
