You need help seriously.

Betting is ok but you need to keep it under control and you clearly do not.

Don't try and gamble anymore to win back your losses - because that just will not work and will add to the situation worsening.

Look at reasons that made you gamble - possibly an escape from a stressful time, or an unhappy life, or boredom?

If you wish to continue gambling in future - set aside a limit of what you can genuinely afford to spend on gambling, after putting rent money, food and bills etc to one side. And give yourself a time limit too. If you win - put that money to one side, and if you lose, don't chase your losses.

I'm guessing you're in the US since you mentioned dollars. In the UK, we have charites called Gamcare and Gamblers Anonymous who provide help and assistance to people with gambling addictions, but I'm not sure of names of any where you are. But I'm sure that you can access their websites for some self-help information initially!

I hope that this advice has been useful.

*****Ok - Australia sorry, my mistake! But it still doesn't chane much of what I said previous*******

You should find a new hobby which does not cost you a $1,000. Losing $1,000 is bad, but losing $2,000 or more is worse. So, get away from gambling for a long while.

Think you can get your money back? Okay, do it on paper first (no actual bet). Give your system a test and see how much you can win or lose. It is not difficult for you to see whether or not you got a winning strategy.

You need to stop gambling for awhile. Take a long break.

you can't get into a hole and dig your self out by betting more. gambling can be profitable, but you have to practice self discipline, use statistics to make your decisions, and use bankroll management. is this poker or sports betting?

No offense, but if you were that good of a gambler, you wouldn't have lost so much to begin with. I say quit before it gets worse. You've gotta "know when to say when".
