During one of my martial arts classes we had a guest instructor teach us Iaijutsu.
As I was holding the sword it seemed like there was a spiritual connection with it. I felt like it was an extension to my body and spirit.
Inside it felt like - "with this I can take a life - I must wield it with honor, respect, and morality."
Is this weird or do swords have some sort of spiritual significance?

I meditated upon it for awhile and felt sorry if I had to take a life with it. That compelled me to want to wield it with mercy and compassion.
It was a strange experience for me.

It sounds like you had a very profound revalation, and perhaps you should act on this feeling and take up sword-weilding martial arts. Hope this helped! and good luck!

what you felt is a good thing. at a glance, I'd say you probably did some sort of serious swordsmanship in a past life, I bet you found handling it to come naturally too, ;-)
heres the deal, physical objects, sometimes have non-physical aspects to them... think of it like a depth of presence. its "there" more than just the physical.
some objects are really just physical.
and the tricky part, particularly when you don't have a gift of recognizing the difference, is that sometimes "hollow" just-physical objects can be reminiscent (to your awareness of your higher self... think of it as a spiritual subconcious mind, like how you might smell something and feel as you did when you were little and had first experienced that smell... but not realize the connection that the smell reminded you of that event)

I think it was the fact that you connected with the sword spirit, so to speak. You saw that in your hands to sword is deadly without honor and respect.
You saw beyond ego.

Some martial arts have spiritual demensions which aren't positive. A chinese friend told me the reason in the old kung fu movies they had people flying around was because the shaolins (or whoever) actually did things like that thanks to spiritual "help." Their kung fu was tied in with the demonic realm. Personally, I'd find a class that wasn't into the spiritual side of martial arts.

You realized the the barrier between you and the sword was in many ways artificial. So is the barrier between you and you opponent.

I don't believe that they do as a rule. Perhaps you are sensitive to them and/or other items or maybe that one has a palpable history, you had a sensitive moment, or who knows what.
Pretty cool though! If it were me I'd explore it further.
