Apostles wrote what they experienced with Jesus. It doesn’t matter when they wrote it, what matters are that they recorded important information about Christ. If you find what they wrote unbelievable then simply say that, but it is reckless and irresponsible to deny that these men recorded what they experienced. You say we Christians have no foundation for our faith. That is not true; we have the records of these credible Apostles and the Prophets. And they dovetail perfectly. THAT gives our FAITH… SUBSTANCE! And we experience that substance transforming to evidence daily!

If it sounds too fantastic for you, just be straightforward and say you don’t believe the supernatural aspects but don’t stoop to ignore the work these men put in. Is this too much to ask?

Dont worry about what atheists have to say. Give them the freedom to say what they feel like. Jesus forgave His crucifiers. Let us follow the great path shown by the Great Master and forgive these atheists. An owl does not approve of the existence of the Sun because it cannot see it. But that does not take away a bit from the splendid and glorious existence of Sun, the source of life on earth. One should be a good human being and respect others. If atheists are incapable of this much why should we even talk of them. They deserve to be ignored.

I have not read the questions you refer to as I have been working and am only screwing around here during my lunch. I think what people are probably saying though is that the gospels were not eye witness accounts. They were written long after the years they refer to. Most biblical scholars will admit they were not written by individuals alive at the time, with the exception of Mark. Its been a while since my biblical history class, but I believe the earliest manuscripts date at about 60AD. The canon of scripture was not accepted until the council of Nicea in the fourth century.

Oh right. Of course, just like Matthew has Jesus cruising into Jerusalem on two animals. That's what Zechariah said would happen, so it has to have been right.

Wrong. That passage in Zech is poetry, following a very common convention of the time it was written, the doubling of lines with slight alterations and intensifications. Anyone who understands how they wrote poetry back then knows that it clearly refers to a single beast.

Either Matthew was seeing double or someone was trying too hard. Take your pick.

If you do some real research into who wrote the bible you will find none of the apostles wrote the books named after them. The vast majority of bible scholars and even many religious leaders admit that.

also when someone wrote "according to" back then it just means whoever wrote the book heard that the story they were writing was originally witnessed by that person. The writer could be for or five times removed from that original eye witness. None of the gospels were written until 30 or 40 years after the fact.

Some biblical scholars believe such books of the bible were actually based off of each other, and aren't quite sure which was the first. They do know it was written several years after the life of Jesus, and the author can't be proven. The name is simply what was tagged on the manuscripts.

The Apostles wrote a politically motivated interpretation of what they experienced with Jesus. Obviously that's not at all the same thing. Be honest - admit it.

No, it's not, liar. If you can't defend your faith without lying and calling people names, your faith must not be worth much, kid.

It does matter how long it took to record what someone has witnessed. If a person wrote down what they have seen at that very moment it will be more accurate than if that same person wrote down what they have seen years later.

"That is not true; we have the records of these credible Apostles and the Prophets"
How on earth do you arrive at this comclusion? How do you know they are reliable? Reigous people are known to be EXTREMELY biased when discssing their faith. I see Christians constantly picking and choosing bible verses to suit certain arguments. I also see them telling us to take certain pieces of text 'not literally' when it suits. The whole thing is a sham and dishonest.

Except that no one who wrote any part of the Bible was even alive when Jesus was. His 12 disciples did not write about him. The authors of the Bible merely recorded what they had heard about Jesus years after his death.

There are no eye witness accounts of Jesus in the Bible. Those men did not experience any of what they recorded.

I am sorry to tell you this, but faith HAS no foundation, nor substance. A foundation is made of concrete, and there is nothing concrete about faith. Faith is the act of believing in the absence of proof. Proof IS concrete. Proof has substance. So if you say you have faith, you are denying proof.

OK, I lied...I wasn't sorry to tell you this.
