Ok, Mr. Geek. You have to start somewhere. Karaoke is simple, its abundant, and you have an audience that really isn't judgemental. They take you at face value. find songs that you can sing. Learn them and go try it. you can make demos and such, but, I think you need to get the confidence up. The best person to talk to is your music teacher. Tell them what you are thinking and see what they think. If not a music teacher than some one with a background in music. You need good honest opinions. You can't take them personally. YOu need to take them and say, OK now what can i do.

Well, I, too love to sing, and write songs. Honey, a lot of people share the same dream....but I think you can survive if this is what you really want.
Step one: Get a myspace music page...this will let people know what you sound like, and that this is your dream.
Step Two: Post videos of you singing on youtube... the better the comments, the better the voice!!!
Step Three: Audition for musicals and participate in talent shows.
Step Four: Go to Cali and show a big studio your voice...
Step Five: If they accept you...record your demo/cd and be heard by millions of peoplezzz!
If not...try not to give up, have faith, and keep your voice strong!!
Also getting an agent would help a whole lot with getting gigs.

If you have the money find a good recording studio and bring some music that you like. Lean as much as you can about at home voice recording and set up a music myspace. That way your songs can be heard by a bigger audience.

It's good to start young. Depending on where you live, a city is probably an easier place to start, but you can find local events like fairs or talent shows maybe at your mall or something and that could be a start.

Just keep at it. You will get noticed when you least expect it. Get envolved in school music programs and sign up for every contest and recital you can. People do go to these things looking for talent.
