I hope people take a good look at Bill O'Reilly's immigration proposal.
Secure the border
Deport illegals that have broken laws
Federal identification cards
No extended families allowed in.
Look at www.billoreilly.com for the whole plan. 1 page, not 800 like congress tried, and it will work.
islander8181: Uh, Democrats are in power in congress.

The bill DID fail. Went down today. In any case, NOTHING will happen. That is what is funny about it. For those who opposed it because they didn't want immigrants to get amnesty, the joke is on them. Now nothing will change. They'll keep coming. Nothing is in place to stop them. At least the immigration reform bill provided for increased enforcement and paid for more border patrols. It also made the cost of amnesty so high that most immigrants would have been unable to do it anyway. So a bill that would have slowed illegal immigration has been shot down, and there is nothing to stop them at all. Ha ha.
For those who opposed it because it didn't do enough to help immigrants become legal, well, now there is NOTHING to help them. Good move. Franky, I think it is hilarious that both sides of the issue were so shortsided on this. Judging from what I read here, 90% of the people throwing a fit about the bill didn't even know what the bill said. And how many of them came up with a better plan? None of them. It's a joke.

Yes the Ted Kennedy -D, John Mccain -R bill was stopped today. Bush with a 30% approval rating supported it, but he was not it's author, and no he will not bring it back when it is clear that Congress with a 14% approval rating needed to do what a clear and overwhelming majority of Americans wanted in order that they stay in power in 2008.
Since the bill failed...we will work on a solution that does not proffer rewards for illegal activity, and will hopefully seal the border, punish the employers and remove citizen benefits from illegal migrants, and hopefully attract more legal immigrants to go through legal channels and stop paying theives and murderers to transport them across borders.
Mr. Taco - no one in the public eye "knew" what the bill in it's entirety "said" and that was in part, why we were against it. And there is still the increase in border security that was previously enacted...the killing of this bill does not strip all actions from the recent past and cause them to vanish, and no it will not cause the status quo to remain the same with regards to illegals...it kills a weak and flawed bill, and will enable a more serious and proper response to a serious problem. Not a simple placebo as this amnesty bill would have been. It offers the possibility and the time needed for actual thought and debate in order to create a bill that will deal with the causes of illegal immigration and stop it at it's source.

It seems it has failed, and what's going to happen is exactly what's been happening. Existing laws will go unenforced, and a million illegals a year will pour into this country demanding Amnesty, instant citizenship, or even that whole states of the Union be turned over to them. If they're denied Amnesty repeatedly, the flood may subside, a little, but much strong interior enforcement - and more rational levels of legal immigration - will be required if we're ever to have a functional immigration policy.

Same thing that will happen with the Iraq war. Nothing new. Until the democrats get in power. Then, maybe, they will end this ridiculous war, pass some meaningful energy legislation, get health care, fix the education system, begin to fight terrorism, and then pass some form of immigration reform.

Are you a little slow today? It did fail. We will probably not see anything like this again until 2009. No Amnesty! Enforce the laws we already have.

I've read that Florida and Oklahoma are taking action against the illegals. Hopefully that will shart a chain reaction. People need to make their voices louder. Join Minutemen or one of the other organizations trying to protect America.

I would recommend another course of action, the protesting is one of the catalysts that brought it to the mainstream attention and started the huge surge of enrollment into grassroots organizations to fight this sorry bill.

I'd add one thing to the post above, if they're here illegally they broke the law to get here. Deport them ALL. NOW!!!!
I'm so glad this bill got crushed. Time to start rounding them up and sending them home.
