This information was obtained from the World Christian Encyclopaedia.

There is an estimate of 150 major religions with more than one million or more followers in each religion. If you belong to one of these groups then mathematically you have a 1.5 percent chance that your belief is correct.

Therefore if you tell someone they are going to hell unless they believe in a certain religion you have only a 1.5 percent chance that your correct.

What do you think about that?

Yes I see my math is wrong. It should be .6 percent chance. Which is even worse so you guys should have just kept your mouths shut about my mathematics skills.

The chances are even slimmer considering there are far, far more than 150 different belief systems. So a person has a less then .05% chance of choosing correctly. Which means all the other people are going to Hell. Nice going, God. What a brilliant move, in dropping off "his word" centuries ago with no follow up. How about an updated and revised edition?

If there was a God (as defined by the Abrahamic religions), he would get an F- for his efforts in calling his people to Heaven.

I think that you have no idea what theology is. . . dogmatic differences do not 'condemn' you. An action to be categorized as 'sin' requires intent and knowledge. You are not expected to know everything much less understand it, you are expected to try as best you can. A far more interesting question is why is it that people who don't want to believe in anything care what others believe in? or Why is it that people that have no idea of what they are talking about still make a blatant advertisement of their ignorance? To discuss religion you must study religion (Notice I didn't say belive)

Well if all of those religion believe in a Hell than atheitsts have a 100% chance of going to some kind of Hell right?

and your math is wrong...1/150=.006666666... so there is a .6666666....% that everybody is correct.

However I know that I am 100% correct. I'm sorry for you and I will pray that God will help guide you on the right path. God Belss.

whoever wrote the World Christian Encyclopedia, cannot be a Christian- because the fact remains, that there is a heaven and a hell, and there is only one way- Jesus. The author of that info will find out the truth- if he died, he already knows the facts. I don't tell people that if they do not believe in a certain religion they will go to hell- The Bible says, if you don't believe and accept Christ for payment of sin, you will not be in heaven.
Someone wrote his opinion, not God's.

ridiculous ridiculous ridiculous
1.5 % for having the correct religion
my grades with statistics were not great but i am very sure that there are errors in this 1.5 % calculation
1.5 % .... puh ^

aaah I am beginning to understand
'they' promoted some religions to the correct one and then they calculated the chance that you are in this arbitrary correct set.

I think you are bad at math.

100%/150= a .666% chance you are right.

Other than that I love you. Hugs n Kisses.

My faith is not based on mathematical probability it is based on the Word of God in scripture and real evidence of the Holy Spirit working in my life.

2Timothy 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

You are correct. Another stat from that book is that there are 33,800 different Christian denominations. That makes the Christian faith one of the most fractured institutions imaginable.

But what do I know :)

I think 1/150 is 0.6666... % not 1.5 %. But then I am a mathematician so I am kind of picky about such things..
