Do you have pictures, what kind of flower did they carry? Did it look ok? Any comments?

One flower, no..but I have seen bridesmaids carry bundles of three flowers (lilies, roses, tulips) with the stems wrapped in ribbon in the wedding color. It can be a very classy, clean, simple look, and much less expensive.

Sure, it's been done.

Be sure to pick a flower that's fairly large and impressive with a long, sturdy, attractive stem. For instance, a long-stemmed rose or cala lily is often used for this purpose, but a daisy usually wouldn't be.

Sometimes the stems are wrapped in ribbons, sometimes they are carried without any embellishment.

I think it looks fine so long as the right sort of flower is chosen and the other floral arrangements are similarly restrained. It can look a little funny if the bridesmaids are carrying a single rose while the bride has a gigantic cascade of a bouquet composed of a dozen different blooms...but if she carries a tight bunch of just flowers or three to five stems of the same flower as the bridesmaids, it can look really lovely.

Yes. I was that bridesmaid. =) (No pix handy) My friend found Stargazer lilies that she LOVED, but in a bouquet, they'd either be lost or overwhelming - depending on the other flowers, so since this was the ONLY flower in existance that matched her colors (burgundy and rose) without being dyed, everyone carried a single one with the opposite color ribbon tied on it. (Those who wore burgundy had a rose ribbon, and vise versa.) It look cool because it was such an outstanding flower. You can't use a wimpy little flower, you need something big and bold for it to work - like a sunflower or something similar.

I don't have any pictures, but I will tell you that it would be OK for your bridesmaids to carry one flower. I carried one flower in my aunt and uncle's wedding. What my aunt did was tie a lace ribbon around a mauve silk rose. That is what her bridesmaids carried. Your bridesmaids could carry a calla
lily with ribbon a silk ribbon around it. I was going to send you a picture of a calla lily but I could not. If you chose that flower it would be very pretty.

I have seen the bridesmaids carry one flower. I personally don't like it at all. I mean everyone can have their own opinion, but i think it is just too little.
I seem to be at the marrying age right now and am going to weddings quite often.
I got married last year and my mother in law and I made all my girls bouquets ( I have 13 girls plus a flower girl). *we had no previous experience, and just followed simple instruction in a flower bouquet making book. I found it to be around the same price as one real flower to make our own with arificial flower just by getting the flowers online. Plus it brought me and my mother in law so much closer.
My cousin got married the same month I did and they only had one flower... I got told later by mutual family members that they couldn't believe how beautiful our flowers looked!! Plus it was fun and very relaxing during the wedding rush. Good Luck with your decision!!:)

Yes, but I don't have pictures and can't remember which flower. Not a lily, but the cala lily that someone metioned is beautiful. If I remember which flower, I'll let you know. Basically it was a long thick stem, and it was set in a doily with fluffy stuff like baby's breath around it.

I had ribbons streaming from each bouquet in my wedding, though I had more than one flower. The ribbons had "love knots" on the ends of each one.

I will E-mail you a picture of one of my sisters in my wedding.
She carried an ivory long stem silk rose, and looked gorgeous. The other three bridesmaids did the same as well.

I carried 5 of the same flower-I love roses, and had these silks in my home for years. Very simple, yet classy.

Usually a calla lily or a single, perfect long stemmed rose.
It is a minimalist look & very simple. If the dresses are elaborate, you might want more than a single flower but if the dresses are simple, elegant & "columnar", then go for the single flower approach. I've always thought a single magnolia blossom would be lovely & they smell so good!!

I was in my sisters wedding and we each carried a single long stem Calla Lillie. Towards the top of the stem we tied a sheer lavender bow (her wedding color, of course). It looked so simple and elegant. At first I was hesitant, but adding the bow made all the difference...that way it doesn't just look like they grabbed a flower from a vase and walked down the aisle with it. :)
