You sound like a good candidate for either a comfort bike to be more upright, or....

a recumbant bike!! pretty much a seat with two wheels that you pedal in front of you...

Maybe you could love cycling again if you got one that is easy on the back?

Hi. I'm a 58 year old cyclist and I'm proud to say that I am a late starter with this sport having started 14 years ago at the (old) age of 44. My best year was in 2002 wherein I logged more than 9,000 kilometers. This early morning I did 25 kms. in less than 1 hour, which I can say is getting poor compared to my best year wherein I cycle during ordinary days for about 60 kms. in 2 hours and more or less than 80 kms. (in about 2 1/2 hours) during weekends. I did 3 centuries, 100kms, in 2002. My friend, there is a saying in Sports that says "No pain, no gain". I had more than 10 crashes since I started cycling, 3 of them serious; and everytime after crash I always said, that should be the last one. Well, my last serious crash happened more than 4 years ago, and still here I am - still alive and always looking for the following day to do biking. Take note of this my friend - sports are acquired skills that are learned thru constant practice, practice, practice with added lot of patience in a span of time. It cannot be learned overnight. Champions are made, they are not born. So, pick up your bike and go; your troubles will be over in time.

I love cycling. I think that if I ever got seriously hurt, I would try to find a bike designed for the new me. There are a lot of designs out there. I have heard that recumbents are good for people with back pain, but you probably already know that.

I don't LIKE cycling ... I LUV it! A big part of it is the social aspect. If you have a good group to ride with now and again, it really is more fun. On the flip side, I do love the solitude of going it alone in a quiet spot.

Hope you find a way to ride and be pain free!!!!

Cycling......my favorite sport. Watching it too. I never miss the Tour, Giro, and Vuelta. Oh yeah, and all the spring and fall classics. I usually ride with back pain. It's all in the mind. Well...I guess it depends how bad the back injury was.

A true bike rider does'nt give up. I crashed once and had to walk with a cane for six months. But I got back on the bike and started to ride again soon as I could. If your doctor ok's it, I'd try again.

I like cycling it is ok but i love unicycling more than normal cycling. I do hop that you can go bake to cycling or as i call it biking. If you can't ride a up right bike try a recumant bike there so fun to ride more so than the unicycle. well good luck and have fun.

Love it, I try to do it about once a week. Usually I do anywhere between 12 and 20 miles. I suggest you start cycling again. It is amazingly rewarding.

Perhaps it's time to try a recumbent? Plenty of back support while still being outside pedaling, and you can be part of the 'Bent cult!

Roadie here, and love it. If back pain is a problem, have you tried a recumbent or a more upright hybrid/comfort bike?
