Seeing as after you die, you lose your brain and I would suppose it's functionality. Your memories, experiences, what you've learned, etc. would cease to exist without the mind being able to process cognitive information. So after death, do you expect you, or your soul (the form of you after death) to keep the memories? Or do you expect a clean slate of memory, almost as if you were reborn?

Another question along the lines of the brain and it's functionality, would a person with Alzheimer's, who used to be a devout Christian still receive access to heaven, even though they no longer really believe/actively participate in the religion? I ask because when some people with Alzheimer's lose their memory, their religious beliefs can be lost as well.

Also, did you come to this question, expecting it to be something along the lines of bashing Christianity?

Hello Southpaw! I believe that death is similar to a good night's rest. The mind is unconscious during your sleep but as soon as you awaken you immediately remember the last things you did before you went to sleep. This is what I believe will happen in God's ressurrection. However, the Bible says in Revelation 21 that God will wipe away the tears from our eyes and the former things we will no longer dwell upon because God will make all things new.

I never anticipate Christian bashing from anyone who differs with believers. I think people are far more open minded about different points of view than we give them credit for. The exchange can be quite stimulating at times on both sides of the fence. John 3:16. Until we meet again.

Good questions.

Well i guess your not a christian so I'm gonna try and say all this without sounding like some sort of fanatic. Christians don't know all the answers. Even though a lot of them act like they do. The truth is, we don't know how god works. But i would say that you keep all your memories. God is love and i don't think he would just erase your memories.

And as far as Alzheimer's goes, god knows the heart of his followers. Its the same concept as if your a baby and you die. You would go to heaven. Because your not yet accountable for your sins. If you were a true christian before you lost your memory or contracted some disease like that. Then god knows. And he will judge you accordingly. So basically I'm saying yes. Because he judges off of your heart and your true feelings.

And honestly yes, i thought it was probably another person trying to bash Christianity online. But good question.

Those are very good questions. I don't think anybody has the real answer for that. I hope I keep my memories, but if not, thats ok too since I'll just be worshiping God all the time anyway.

A person with Alzheimer's would not lose their salvation. I believe that once saved, always saved. Even if a person has a bad experience later in life, and totally turns from God, if they truly were sincere when they accepted Jesus, they will still go to Heaven.

I did expect you to be bashing Christianity when I clicked on your question, but you end up getting a star from me instead.

In the history of mankind, no one has ever been recorded to have died and came back to life again to explain what really happens after death. Unless you consider the Bible as a history book, you will find one, the man Jesus. I am glad it was not recorded as he did rise up from the tomb like a brainless zombie. He even did the simplest chore of folding linen after bedtime like a normal person do.

I cannot imagine how Yahoo stores countless volume of data everyday. But will it not give us an idea that, that powerful being who created the earth(whether by evolution or creation or amoeba, or big bang or call it whatever you want) could assign a hard drive to record our memories?
Alzheimer's? BACK UP!!!!!!!

One doesn't need to be a "devout Christian" to have acces to heaven. It was promised to "whosoever believe in Him". An absolute open invitation.
The Bible described that "access to heaven" is a gift from God to those who realized that they are lost sinners and cannot help themselves but trust that Jesus Christ paid their sins in the cross of Calvary(that's the reason why He must suffer a cruel death). At that very moment, that person died to his own old self(thus cutting off the curse that Adam passed to us) and reborn in a new life(in Jesus). That person becomes newly born child of God yet an absolute citizen of heaven.
Citizenship is always Alzheimer's proof.
Upon death, sooner or later, every memories will be archived to see what you have done in your entire life. All the sin list committed BEFORE trusting Jesus will be marked/stamped as follows;
PAYOR : JESUS CHRIST
AMOUNT : BLOOD IN CALVARY
Payment Accepted.

I cannot see any sane and rational reason to bash Christianity, I mean true Christianity. You might have misidentified people as true Christian while they are not actually.
True Christians, occupies a very small percentage of the population anywhere in the world. Could hardly put up a church building with a signboard in it, most members are hardly socially recognize, humble but nice. They pray silently.
Get to know one of them.

Not a Christdog but here goes; Life as i understand it is caused by a form of electricity (how many don't think they have electrical impulses surging through out their bodies ) so who's to say memory isn't stored in a electrical molecules in your brain. And the soul could be nothing but the electricity thats in our bodies, if this were the cause then when the body dies the electricity would metamorph into a ghost and go to the party at the end of the universe to await judgment day!

#1 I believe that when we reach heaven we will see our loved ones again and we will know them. Our brains are just part of our earthly bodies and we have know idea how our heavenly bodies are going to be. I do not think that God is just going to wipe away the memories of those we loved on earth.

#2 Alzheimer's: Yes, if they sincerely accepted Christ they will go to heaven. They cannot be blamed because of a disease and God loves them and He will take them home and they will be renewed. No sickness in heaven.... Someone who has Alzheimer's do not lose their beliefs, loss of memory is the biggest part of the disease. They are not actively choosing this.

#3 Expect your question to be offensive? No, there was no indication that it was offensive.

I answered this question yesterday, so you can refer to that. You really seem to be pimping it though. I know it can be frustrating that a question so eloquently stated as "y r there still monkeys u stopid athesists???" will get fifty answered while an insightful one such as this will only get a handful. It's probably because they either don't want to take the time to think it through and would rather hurl a lame insult at someone, or they think it's baiting. I don't answer a lot of questions that atheists and others direct towards Christians because I feel like they're just attempting to belittle what I believe.

Oh, and as to not violate any rules, my answer can be found here:

I think that yes we will know what we did on earth and remember it because the Bible tells us that we will be judged according to our works. Notice I said judged not saved since no one is saved except by grace.
Yes, a person with Alzheimers would still go to heaven, we are told that no one can pluck us from the Fathers hand and that would definately include disease.
No, I didn't really expect bashing, I'm one of those folks who always sees the glass as half full. :)

I am not Christian, but can give a related answer. I feel that memories and cognitive processing are actually harbored by our spirit energy. The "Me" part of my existence is in my spirit, not my body. The brain only controls the body (which requires knowing the spirit's intentions). Thus, our memories and personalities go with our spirit into the "afterlife".

My Christian family members believe something similar.

question 1- I like to think the soul would keep the memories, since I'd love, even in soul form, to reconnect with deceased loved ones
#2- yes, people with diminished capacity would have access to heaven because life is a cummulative process and their past good deeds, abd spirtual beliefs would not be voided due to brain function (or lack of it)
#3)No. I'm technically a Catholic, but define myself as an agnostic with aethist leanings, and have no expectations of who will bash and who will not.

I want religion to be more of a cafeteria setting- people pick and choose what helps THEM deal with what ails them.
