It is not oxidation that converts alcohol to vinegar it is bacteria. Wine vinegar is made from wine and the flavor will be determined by the type of wine used. The regular white vinegar at the market is made from any ethanol diluted with water to a low enough alcohol content to allow the bacteria to convert it. The strength, or acidity is determined by the original alcohol content but commercial vinegar is diluted to be consistent.

If you are concerned because it might not be Halal because of the alcohol, don't be. Some of the best pickles I have ever had are from the Middle East and are marked on the can as Halal and Kosher.

Muhammad their is no difference between the two. Wine has been allowed to convert itself into Vinegar by various processes which include exposing it to air the oxidation will convert the wine into an acetic state and will render into wine vinegar - me I'm pissed as a newt and like my wine fresh/fruity and with someone whom appreciates good wine xx

When the wine is exposed to oxygen it turns to vinegar and is still very drinkable although you may want to cut it with some water. Most white (clear) vinegars are made from apples and are simply distilled.

Wine vinegar is made from wine that has been processed.
It is no longer drinkable as a beverage. (It is not simple vinegar with wine added.)
