Dogs and cats are carnivores. Neither should be on a vegetarian diet. Recommendations from a petshop that gets it's pups from PUPPYMILLERS is laughable:

They are probably getting kickbacks from this slop which is made IN China of contaminated ingredients.

there ARE no good brands because dogs aren't vegan.....ok so they aren't even true omnivores!!!
If you are really stuck on feeding your dog veggies (which a carnivore really shouldn't be eating a lot of) then I imagine a vegan diet for dogs is similar to raw meat feeders. I feed my dogs raw meat and it is WAY cheaper than going out and buying the best of the best kibble.
If you ever change your mind (read up on wolves and the anatomy of a dog and you will understand why PETA really failed when they said dogs could be vegitarians) then go with the prey model diet. You can still feed your dogs berries (wolves also eat berries but it isn't part of their diet....kind of like people and candy) and some other things.
EDIT:
so what I meant in the second paragraph was that home made diets tend to be cheaper and more healthy. Sorry I didn't make that very clear

Dogs are carnivores NOT omnivores!!!!! Except in very extreme circumstances NO dog should be on a vegetarian diet...it is NOT healthy for them. They are designed to eat meat,to extract appropriate nutrition from meat, to digest and process meat NOT grains and veggies...sure dogs can exist on a vegetarian diet (just as humans can on a total diet of twinkies and soda) but it is neither healthy nor benefitial.

Okay... I understand you being a vegetarian, but your dog is a CARNIVORE. You can't feed him a vegetarian diet without destroying his immune system and causing all kinds of health issues.
If you want to be vegetarian that is fine, but don't push that onto your dog. Allow him to eat what he should be eating- meat, more meat, meaty bones, and organs.
They are carnivores not herbivores! Look it up.
www.google.com- dogs + carnivores
Good luck.

I support vegetarianism in PEOPLE...do not force this upon your dog!!!!! If you disagree with feeding meat to a dog then you need to find someone who will feed your dog appropriately! You are sadly reminding me of the sick vegan Lion from the Poppler's episode of Futurama! For shame!!!

I agree with the other posters.
While dogs are not obligate carnivores (like ferrets are), they are still carnivores.
It always annoys me to see those dog food ads that advertise their grain and vegetables. Grain and vegetables are FILLER in dog food, and should be avoided. Dogs can digest it, but they don't get much out of it, and too much fiber can be detrimental.
Please think of your dog's welfare first. I understand your idealogy and respect it.
Humans can get away with being vegan/vegetarian because we're omnivores, but carnivores can not.

I know of one very good commercial vegetarian dog food. It is Natures Recipe Healthy Skin Vegetarian Recipe. They carry it at Pet Smart in both kibble and canned.
Not ALL dogs need or can tolerate meat in their diet. Several years ago, I adopted a Dalmatian who could not eat meat. After unsuccessfully trying to clear up her coat and skin problems with additives and visits to my Vet, I went on line and asked for advise from Dalmatian breeders from across the US. I learned that many Dalmatians cannot tolerate the high purine levels contained in meat protein. It can cause Dalmatian Bronzing Syndrome, which it turned out my girl had. I began cooking her vegetarian diet and she was cured. However, I had to suppliment her home-cooked food with vitamines and additatives only available at a health food store. This all took a huge amount of time and cost a lot. You can imagine my delight when I found Natures Recipe Vegetarian food. She thrived on Natures Recipe for the rest of her wonderful life. One of my friends, who had another breed of dog with skin allergies, switched to Natures Recipe Healthy Skin Venison Meal & Rice Recipe. She also had great results and began feeding it to all of her dogs.
No, I don't own stock in the company and have no financial interest in them whatsoever. I've just had GREAT results with their products and want to share the information. The dogs I have now eat their Adult Lamb Meal & Rice formula.

Dogs are omnivores and are designed to eat meat.
Please don't inflict a vegetarian lifestyle on your pet. If someone is vegetarian because they don't like the harm that comes to animals as a result of eating meat, then they shouldn't harm their own animals as a result.
If you want a vegetarian pet, please get a rabbit.

Why would you want your dog to be "vegetarian"
How about a pet goat instead?
