euphoric, maybe just maybe the senate is not worth voting out of office completely, maybe just the ones who voted for this abomination.

Sad - It means we will keep the same dysfunctional system with random roundups of illegals that we have now - There will be no money for increased border security and the people who are already here will not be able to legalize their status. Hardly any illegals will be deported. The government will not have a chance to collect fines and increased tax revenue from the illegals who want to become citizens. Employers will be able to continue employing illegals with little fear of prosecution and there will be no national data base of the people who legally have the right to work. - In 2009, when the Senate starts dealing with the issue again, there will probably be 14 million illegal aliens here instead of 12 million. A solid majority in the Senate wanted the bill to pass- but they couldn't come up with 60 votes - so don't expect any new money to be appropriated for border security - without a new comprehensive bill that deals with the people who are already here.
More republican than democratic Senate seats will be vulnerable in 2008 election. - Maybe by 2009, it will possible to get the 60 votes needed to end debate.
The anti immigration senators missed a chance today to get a bill passed. - Its not going to get any easier for them when the Democratic majority increases in 08.

Happy because blanket amnesty should not be given to those that break our laws. Amnesty should be decided on a case by case basis. Either because of political or religious persecution as done during the cold war. No mention was ever made in congress about the millions of future legal immigrants and the backlog in congress. If you are trying to come from Mexico, India, or the Philippines you could have a wait of around 20 years if you have no one to petittion you. if you do you may only have to wait 10 years. Why does the congress not act on that?

I'm BOTH... I'm glad that the Amnesty Bill died a clear death !! But I'm also saddened that our Congress can't get off their collective BUTTS and protect our borders and secure our ports.
12 million or 20 million, they are ILLEGAL. I hope that the PEOPLE put pressure on the Government to start deporting them and punishing those companies who are profiting from cheating the American worker.
Senator's Feinstein and Boxer certainly won't be getting MY vote in 2011 and 2013 respectively

Let's see, illegals could become legal in 24 hours without getting the backround check back 1st, they didn't have to learn English for 9 years, they wouldn't have to pay back taxes but would be eligible for unearned income tax credit, plus they wanted our tax dollars to go to pay to educate them in there country so they would stay there. It's bad enough we already give them free money and health care and we don't do that for enough of the poor American citizens who need help. We don't educate our own citizens for free. We have to pay for college and job training, why should our government give our tax dollars to another country to pay for there education. Dumping this bill was the smartest thing our government has done in a long time!

Very happy but the battle has just begun! We now have to enforce the laws and get our borders closed, get rid of radical illegals and get our government back on track. It's a long hard road ahead but the politicians know we really mean what we said and that's a beginning!

Why do you keep using this word immigration? It's about the ILLEGALS that ILLEGALLY entered this country? It saddens you that granting them clemency has failed? That's real sad.
