Yes, he was born in California and began racing go-carts at the age of 5, but moved to Indiana so he could race Sprint cars in the heart of Sprint car country. And the rest is history.

Jeff Gordon was bron in Vallejo, CA, and then started racing go carts, and then at the age of 14, he wanted to pursue racing, so his family moved to Indiana so he could purse it more. That is where all the racing and everything was going on and Indianapolis International Speedway was only a few miles away from his house so he could race their alot. That's how he got discovered. He said that his dad and his family is out in CA and all his friends that he grew up in Elementary school with, but in Indiana, he went to high school there, and the kids saw him race, and they hold special ceremonies for him. They have a street and an overpass named after him and hold parades on his bday. It's just really cool all the people that love him.

Jeff and his family moved to Pittsboro when he was 13. He took up interest in sprint cars, and after finally being allowed to race in them (many rules stated you had to be 16) the family moved so Jeff could settle and learn in the heart of sprint car country. He lived there till about 1991 when he started racing in the Busch Series full time.
