A few days ago my cousin was found sitting in a chair, shot by an ak-47. Now my knowledge of guns is limited I don't even know if that is the correct name for it, but hopefully you get the idea. The body was sent for an autopsy to determine if it was murder or suicide. Family members close to him said he was depressed, and there has been no mention of this in the local papers or on the news. So everyone assumed it was a suicide. But just this morning we found out the type of gun he was shot with. My husband seems to be convinced that it would be nearly impossible to shoot yourself with that type of gun, due to its size. At this point the police aren't saying to much of anything. Does anyone have any knowledge about such a thing.
Also he was shot in the chest, if that means anything

Thank you for all your answers, but I must clarify, he was only shot once, in the chest. And no the gun was not found at the scene. The way he was actually found was by an anonymous tip to the police. So all that said, you think murder right. But the police are implying suicide. They think someone(a friend) found him, not wanting to get implicated in what happened took the gun, called the police and left. I know most of you are thinking what difference does it make. Probably none, but just trying to make sense out of something that makes no sense. Thanks again

First off, I am sorry for your loss.
Was a gun - that gun found at the scene? If yes, then it most likely was a suicide. If someone shot him, they would not leave the gun at the scene - and an AK-47 is an expensive gun...not something one would be too willing to leave behind.
An AK-47 is a relatively small gun in comparison to a lot of others out there, and it would not be difficult for a person to shoot themselves in the chest with one.
People shoot themselves in the head with rifles and shotguns - shoot themselves in the chest with "long rifles" and shotguns too. If they want to shoot themselves, they will find a way of doing so.

An AK-47 has a mid length barrel, it would be quite easy to shoot yourself in the chest. But if they needed an autopsy to determine what type of gun it was, than that means the gun was not found at the scene. How does a dead guy dispose of a gun?

What possible difference does it make? The autopsy will tell you what and how he was killed. They will rule homicide or suicide and then its done. If its a religious issue then your cousin make a decision with consequences. There isn't anything you can do about that. If it was murder, then the police will handle it. A violent response to violence does nothing but kill more people. I would think by this time, everyone would be tired of that.
I'm sorry for your families loss.

I no gun enthusiast, but if you have ever seen an ak-47, they are a good size gun. An assault weapon, and I would imagine it would be kind of hard to hold that size gun in your arms then be able to aim accurately andhold it to shoot yourself in the head and chest.
That type of caliber gun and up that close, one shot would have killed him and it would not have taken 2 tries. Sounds like you already know the answer to your own question, and if your thinking like me, I would say it wasn't a suicide!

I am so sorry. I do agree with your husband. It would be hard to shoot yourself with that type of gun, unless modified.

It doesn't really sound like suicide due to where he was shot?

It's not impossible. The trigger is not too far from the end of the barrel.
