Don't they reject Jesus as being the Messiah? Don't they think the Messiah has yet to arrive? And the New Testament is only about Jesus.

Lets clarify things a bit.
1) We only follow the Tanach (Torah- Five Books of Moses, Nevi'im- Prophets, Ketuvim-Writings)
2) The Torah has both a written part(the Five books of Moses) and an oral part (the mishnah).
3) The mishnah is recorded with lots of commentaries in the Talmud
4) The messiah has not come yet, and when he does come he will be fully human, with two human parents.
5) Jews for Jesus/Messianic Jews are CHRISTIAN SECTS and regarded as such by every Jewish denomination, they have nothing to do with Judaism.
6) The "New Testament" is completely irrelevant to us, and not studied for purposes of our religion. Some have read it out of interest (I did in the days when I was unsure of what religion I was going to be)

Well, the word "bible" in today's time has become a very generic term that can be applied to any book that is a) authoritative b) long.

But more precisely, its the Jewish Bible, called in Hebrew the Tanach. That is from an acronym that is Torah, Nevi'im, Kesuvim or Torah, Prophets, and Writings. It is basically what Christians call the Old Testament. However, since Jews do not believe in the "New" one, thus calling the "Old" one "old" is considered a bit inappropriate.

Also, to be quite clear, we view the original Hebrew as sacred while anything else is just a translation thereof.

And, yes, the Messiah has yet to arrive and yes, Jesus is not the messiah.

the old testament and a couple texts that aren't part of the christian bible.

remember that christianity ADDED the new testament... and is less than half as old as judaism.

>>"Don't they reject Jesus as being the Messiah?"<<
yes. but its more accurate to say that Jesus does not fulfil the requirements of the jewish messiah, according to judaism.

>>"Don't they think the Messiah has yet to arrive?"<<
correct, if the messiah had come, we would not be discussing this, among other rather obvious and immense world-changing differences.

>>"And the New Testament is only about Jesus. "<<

correct. Jesus and the new testament have nothing to do with judaism.

additionally, one cannot belive in Jesus as the messiah or more than merely a man, and be Jewish.

by Jewish standards, the trinity is polytheism, and seeing jesus as any more divine than you or I, is idolotry.

some people will lie to you and say that some do, but if they do so they have betrayed their god and disowned their heritage, and are no longer jewish.

again, there is *NO SUCH THING* as a jewish person who belives jesus was the messiah.

When we say we read the Bible we mean our Bible, the Jewish Bible, the original one. It is composed of the Tanakh (Torah, Nevi'im (Prophets) and Ketuvim (Writings)--> TNK--> TaNaKh) and the Talmud (composed of both the Oral Torah and the commentaries on the holy writings). We do not call it the Old Testament because for us it's not new and also there is no New Testament in our religion.

We do not read the New Testament because it is not a part of our Bible. Some may read it for reference but we do not believe in it nor abide by whatever is in it. We reject him as messiah. We believe the messiah hasn't come yet.

No Jew believes in JC. Those who accept him as a messiah or god are not Jewish anymore--they are apostates by Jewish authority.

That is correct but it does not mean that some do not read the new testament it just means that do not believe that the messiah has come therefore they only follow the old testament.

Why on earth did all those Christians answer for us???? I doubt that most of them have even heard of the Talmud. It would be like a Jew answering questions about Christianity without ever having read the "New" Testament. Incredible!

I believe that it is just the books of Moses that makes up the Torah. Some Jews have accepted Jesus and they read the entire Bible. Some just read the Old Testament. Mainly its the books of Law.
Genesis
Exodus
Leviticus
Numbers
Deuteronomy

Though their scripture includes what is considered by Christians as the "Old Testament", they have every right to read the Christian Bible, they simply do not put material from the "New Testament into their cannon.

I'm sure some of them read the whole thing for reference, but they actually follow only the OT. You are correct about the Messiah.

Most Jews don't think Jesus was the Messiah, although some sects do.

The Jewish Bible is the Tanakh, comprised of the Torah, Nevi'im, and Ketuvim. We call it the Old Testament. There's also the Talmud, which is commentary.
