Telling lies is never a good policy. Also, Jesus did not have time for a wife and kids. If he did he would have had to stay home with them, and would not have been able to attend is flock as much as He needed to. That idea is also expressed several times in the bible.

Also, as Jesus knew He was going to die the way He would, why would he want to put a wife and kids through that? Losing their their father/husband, in such a brutal public display? And given when he met Mary Magdelene, it was only a couple years before his death. Not a good deal for her either.

I think the idea of Jesus and Mary Magdelene was created to sell books and make TV specials. And let's face it, if Jesus was married don't you think that would have been important enough to mention in the bible?

From a deeper Theological perspective it wouldn't make sense for Jesus to get married on earth. Jesus is God. And God is a perfect union. A family if you will. God made us in his image, as male and female, so that we could join together and become one (like God), forshadowing the perfect union with God in heaven. Priests today do not mary because they are "skipping" this earthly union, to devote their lives to God, and begin their union with Him on earth. How much more would this have been true with Jesus, who was already divine! He would have been the last person who would have needed union with another human. His union with God was perfect already!

it does matter to christians because it portrays a simple, human Jesus. But the Da Vinci Code is a rip-off. I rather sugest The Holy Blood, Holy Grail. Also, look up the Gospel of Mary, where it is clear Jesus preferred Mary Magdalene over any of his other 'disciples', and that she was not only the closest, but the one who knew most about him.

There is evidence that Jesus married Mary Magdalene, and had one or more children, but that along with other 'truths', where banned in the Councils of Nicaea and others and were stained with the term apocrypha.

The Da Vinci code is loosley based on false text from the Gnostics. Many non-Christians love heretical Gnostic texts because they are ancient and include many teachings that are not found in the Bible or were rejected by the Church and hidden or buried (mostly in Egypt). Just because something is ancient doesn't mean its true. And Jesus couldn't have been married because that would break the continuity of the scriptures. Christ is the head of the church and the Church is his "bride" therefore he needs no wife. He couldn't have had kids because he was of the same essence of God, and the only one God had begotten was Christ. And honestly, I don't think any woman would want to marry a man who didn't own a home, didn't carry any money, and hung out with smelly fishermen. But that's just me.

The da vinci code story is palpable nonesense, but IF it was true it would mean the church had lied for 2000 years, and everything implied by that. How can that not matter to an adherent?

The Da Vinci code is so ridiculous unless you like fairy tales.

Uh, yea, it does matter. For a Jewish man in that time period to remain single was unusual. It demonstrated His selflessness and servant nature. Also, He knew He was going to die young and that would have left a young widow, not a good thing in any era. But the main objection is that that theory tends to exaggerate His humanity and deny His deity.

I don't care either way he did his job as our lord and if he was married it was common in his time and most marriage were arranged
We don't know for a fact if he was or wasn't it's more of a new thought of who he was and if he was married he wasn't the only person in the bible to be married.

It puts a lie to everything and shakes the foundation of the church.

Personally, it was highly unusual for a man of Jesus age, in his time, not to be married

Well the DaVinci Code is fiction all though the theory of Mary Magdeline has been around forever.
I see no reason he couldn't have been married. I think having a wife is fine. Jesus was pure of sin, yes. But having a wife isn't sinful. Having sex with a wife isn't sinful. He could still have been pure of sin and had a wife. I don't get that.

I know!!
The point is that God sent Him to us in the first place and that he was willing to die for us.
Having sex is'nt a sin. If Jesus has a bloodline, who cares!! Think of it as a something physical he left behind.
