Because it sure isn't about Jesus.

That is a serious accusation. So what are you basing it on, personal observation? Jim

I think I would consider myself a christian and I agree with you that it is not about Jesus for many christians. But I certainly don't think it is about lying or stupidity either. I think it is mostly about wanting to belong to something and "knowing" that you are right. Christians aren't really bad people, many of tham just got the Bible a little mixed up.

NEITHER.

It's supposed to be about Jesus.

Let me give you an analogy, that I read on www.christiangoth.net. I'll paraphrase it a little to make it shorter.

Let's suppose there's a person who'd never heard of Beethoven, and one of their friends said, "Oh yeah, Beethoven is awesome! Hey, my kid is in band, and they're going to be doing Beethoven's 5th Symphony. Let's go check it out!"
SO they go to the concert, and the band's rendering of the symphony was, at best, mediocre.
The person who had never heard of Beethoven isn't impressed, to say the least. They say, "Beethoven wasn't that great."
Well, what if Beethoven's 5th had been performed by experienced musicians? Would have been a lot better, right?

Christianity is the same way. We're like that junior high band trying to play Beethoven. Some of us are better than others at it, but altogether, it doesn't always leave a good taste in someone's mouth, does it?

If we always look to amateurs to see how something is supposed to be, we're going to be disappointed. Could a third-grader paint Van Gogh's "Starry Night" with a degree of proficiency? Sometimes, but not always. Maybe if they're a prodigy, lol, otherwise, it's just going to look like scribblings. What about Da Vinci's "Angels on a Swing"? Same thing.

Look to Christ, not to Christians and Christianity.

Christianity is about God's kingdom on Earth. Jesus came as a messenger, to spread God's gospel.

Modern Christianity? Yes, sadly it is. There are a lot of people out there who really are Christians. they just get drowned out by the crazies.
