I know that my car has a leaking water pump, but am low on cash at the moment to get a replacement. I've been driving it minimally, but now there is a problem with the car starting. It appears to be fine electrically (you get the electrical sound when you turn the key) but it won't turn over until after like a minute of trying to get it to start. Just wondering if these two problems are related or if there is something else I should be looking at. My Cavalier is a '95 2 door with 140k miles. Thanks for your help!

I mean wouldn't the engine have trouble starting if it couldn't pressurize the coolant because of a leak?

As a side note. It does still start on occasion. As well, for the most part, I get slightly past the electrical sound on starting the car -- like it's just on the brinking of turning over, then the car will shutter a bit and just die. I was thinking maybe something like the spark pluggs? Also it appears to have more trouble starting when its slightly cooler and more humid....But it has trouble pretty much everyday now.

You have two problems. One is to get the coolant leak fixed. The other sounds like the starter has had it as the "electrical sound" you hear is probably the starter spinning but not engaging the flywheel teeth. If that is the case, it is a problem inside the starter and needs to be overhauled or replaced.. Good luck.

No, it doesn't sound like the two could be related.......
I think you have two separate issues here...
