RE:
Is a Mohawk an Army regulation haircut?
I am in the army and for the soccer team I play on the weekends we want to do mohawks. I wasn't sure if it was a regulation haircut

You're in the Army, and you don't know AR 670-1? I find that hard to believe. To refresh your memory, I have inserted the following text, directly from AR 670-1, dated 3 Feb 2005:
(2) Male haircuts will conform to the following standards.
(a) The hair on top of the head must be neatly groomed. The length and bulk of the hair may not be excessive or present a ragged, unkempt, or extreme appearance. The hair must present a tapered appearance. A tapered appearance is one where the outline of the soldier’s hair conforms to the shape of the head, curving inward to the natural termination point at the base of the neck. When the hair is combed, it will not fall over the ears or eyebrows, or touch the collar, except for the closely cut hair at the back of the neck. The block-cut fullness in the back is permitted to a moderate degree, as long as the tapered look is maintained. In all cases, the bulk or length of hair may not interfere with the normal wear of headgear (see para 1–8a(1)(a), above) or protective masks or equipment. Males are not authorized to wear braids, cornrows, or dreadlocks (unkempt, twisted, matted, individual parts of hair) while in uniform or in civilian clothes on duty. Hair that is clipped closely or shaved to the scalp is authorized.
(b) Males will keep sideburns neatly trimmed. Sideburns may not be flared; the base of the sideburn will be a cleanshaven, horizontal line. Sideburns will not extend below the lowest part of the exterior ear opening.
The Mohawk is NOT an allowed hairstyle under AR 670-1. The killer on the criteria is the word "extreme" in the first paragraph.
Get a high and tight. Sorry, but that's the closest you can legally get.

I don't know those Ranger guys wear those 2 x 6 inch strips of hair on the tops of their heads, that looks like a mohawk to me.

No it's not. I like the guys idea of doing it for a game and then shaving it. At least you can get one game in with your mohawk.

No, it never has been. I served in Vietnam and the unit that I was with was called the "Headsman" and to be in our company you were required by the other members to have a Mohawk hair cut.

It is not, sorry friend. I am quite sure your 1SG and commander would consider it a trendy non standard hairstyle and would cause you some real trouble.
One thing you COULD do is get the mohawk before the game, go play, and then shave it all off. Being bald is NOT against regs.

No, it is shaved on the sides, leaving a raised strip of hair of varying length in the middle. Name after the Mohawk Indian tribe of the upper New York, Erie area, who wore their hair in that manner.
