Once again, I agree with bikertrash 100%!!! The 3.9L V8 DOHC engine in your 2002 Lincoln LS shares ABSOLUTELY NOTHING with any of Ford's other engines. This engine is EXCLUSIVE to Ford's DEW-98 chassis (Lincoln LS, 2002 to 2205 Thunderbird, Jaguar S-Type). Swapping the CORRECT engine into this particular car is already a hard enough task as it is (almost as hard as removing/replacing 6.0L Diesel engines in Ford's trucks), let alone trying to swap in a different engine. With that said, attempting to do so, will result in a "money pit" that you will NEVER be able to sell, and recoup your losses. If you are not happy with the power you already have, trade it in for a more powerful vehicle that satisfies your 'need' for power. Hope this helps.

Hi Lois, :-)
I don't know Ford as well as GM. In GM, the small black is fairly well defined and, at least physically, it is fairly straight forward to swap engines, the core block design has changed little (electronics, wiring, vacuum lines, ect may be a different story). It's pretty easy to drop a home built/bought 'old style' engine into anything (ie - carburated or after market fuel injection), it's the Tuned Port, Fuel Injected, Computer controlled swaps that are more difficult. It's also feasible with some additional mods to fit a big block in place of a small block on many cars & trucks and even to put s small block in place of a V-6 (easy on some cars such as the Mustang and Firebird/Camero that already have a V-8 option).
Ford is a little more iffy as they have more basic block variations (Windsor vs Cleavland, ect) than GM, especially with their new modular blocks. If you have a true classic small block, then the 302 would fit well I would think and can be taken to sizes well above that (not sure how far). That all said, the question is what size/type is the engine you have now? (either Liters or Inches ... I'll just convert to inches anyhow ... real men don't drive Liters ;-) )
No matter what , it's not a particularily small task.
Personally, I'm targeting a supercharger for myself (I don't like the heat and reliability issues of Turbo's), something like the Paxton type that would fit right under the hood (I like sleepers :-) ).
Other mods first ... free-flow exhaust (not noisey though), good solid ignition system (the #1 first do in my book), moderate cam change (actually 1.55:1 roller tip rockers for a little more lift), and a fuel pressure boost to go with the lifters (just a few pounds more by an adjustable regulator). Next step if I can tire out the current engine will be to bore it out a little, compensated with more fuel pressure for the computer to be happy.
I think then I'll be happy.

I don't know what state you are in but the state I live in doesn't allow engine swaps for anything other than the same type/size that came with the car from the factory. You could just get some nodifications to the engine that you have, but that may not be allowed when the car needs to be tested/ inspected. Theengine you have makes a good amount of power. power costs money. And gas economy will go down if you got a bigger engine.

There really isn't room for a bigger block. The engine could be bored and the heads modified, but the ECU computer would have to be changed.
There should be an aftermarket EEC (chip) that will improve performance and fuel economy without the expense and risk of a totally engine rebuild. Good luck.

The engine in the Lincoln LS is actually built by Jaguar, most of the suspension and driveline in your car is derived from Fords ownership of Jaguar consequently trying to fit a different V8 in your car is going to be tough and when you are done you will probably end up with a cobbled together, un-reliable POS. I would think that somewhere on the Internet you could find performance mods for Jags that would work on your car.

What is your final goal? If it's just to give that care more power then slap a 50 shot nitrous system on it and call it a day. Anything else is going to destroy the smooth, quiet ride the car has now as that is what that engine was balanced for.
Another engine, if one DID fit, would be extremely complicated and expensive because those mounts are very particular and the computer is wired differently then most cars in a luxury car.

The engine you have is fine,it just needs some help. There is a TON of torque/H.P. hiding in there,.....you just have to free that small block up so it can run up to it's potential. My personal preference is to go old school an stay away from the blowers. Heads ported and polished,3 angle valva jod, double valve springs, upgrade the cams,Exhaust is a BIG thing. and if your a total speed freak you can then go with a nice turbo. It all depends on what you want as far as performance, and what you want to spend. Keep in mind that if you upgrade the engine, you also have to upgrade the tranny, rear end, fuel system and most important,....the brakes. The LS can be one hell of a sleeper. GOOD LUCK. Rob in PA.

Go ahead and trade it in for a Shelby GT500. That should be enough HP to get you around the block. Then there is the Super Snake if you really need 700hp. Good luck.

They can pretty much supercharge anything ok i don't know what you were told but that would be your best bet trying to replace the engine would be far more involved.
