K, seriously.... Pot does cause some long term defects such as loss of short term memory and weight gain ( munchies good! ) LOL But people really amp up the side effects mainly because its really not good for our youth. Kids these days need every edge they can get and burning can really be a major set back for them. Hanging out with "the wrong crowds"
is the gate way to other drugs, not pot. Kids won't focus, they learn the basics in responsibility, you know the stuff that as MATURE adults most of us already have down. Toking doesn't really give you all these so called "mental problems" I'm not saying its a government conspiracy or any thing, just scare tactics to try to keep kids from steering off course.

Think about it...... All these commercials we keep hearing and seeing stating these "stone cold facts" are always pointed toward kids. IE; Kids play the roles, the situations are always framed around high school and/or middle school aged persons and dilemmas.......

The following doesn't come from someone who has no idea ok. I'm talking real life here. And this is from 5 family members throughout the course of life.

It is NOT a natural herb - good grief. Why do you think they call it WEED. Its a WEED. You have become apathetic. I would bet you dont have good stable relationships. I would bet that deep down you have issues - or you wouldnt need to smoke it.

studies of marijuana dangers associate repeated use of the drug with lower test scores and academic abilities. On the job, workers who smoke pot often miss more work, have more accidents and are more likely to lose their job.

On emotional level marijuana dangers include isolation, depression and an increase in anxiety. Uncomfortable feelings and fear also lead to more use of the drug that can make for more problems.

Studies show that over time, individuals who become physically and/or emotionally dependent on marijuana can find that they are falling behind on basic fundamental life skills that are being acquired by peers in the same age range. This leads to self-esteem problems as self-reinforcement abilities deteriorate and confidence diminishes. So why doesn't the pot smoker stop smoking pot?

Another one of the marijuana dangers is physical dependence on the drug. Many people try to stop over and over but are overwhelmed by anxiety, irritability and sleeping difficulties. Physical dependence is marked by withdrawal symptoms when the drug is removed.

The dangers include the bodies' adaptation to an almost continuous presence of the drug in its system. The brain adapts to the pain reducing reaction to the drug and its other analgesic effects like inducing sleep.

Those who have only tried smoking pot once or twice might be amazed that anybody could function on the drug at all. But those who have been smoking the drug for months and years have become accustomed to its effects and can often hide the fact that they are high at all.

One of the biggest marijuana dangers can just be the loss of hope from the frustration that you can't seem to quit on your own.

That proves it then.
Beware anyone who thinks they are mentally stable.

Seriously, I always thought problems occurred when too much stress was put on a weak part. At least that's what happens when I fork over my wages to the local grease-monkey. "One careful owner" my *%&&%£.
All it means is that you are unlikely to have tendencies towards emotional or mental instability. But you probably have other weaknesses that have cropped up. Bad back from too much driving?, Dodgy knee or ankle from an active past? No? Bet you have something.
Everyone has a weakspot.
As an occasional user myself I don't believe cannabis is neccesarily more dangerous than smoking, but it does have the potential to destroy the unwary or just plain stupid. I've seen it happen often enough.
I would say that of all the drinkers I grew up with maybe 1% became alcoholics, the dopers sure as hell didn't get off that easy. And one died.
I exclude those injured by associated alcohol violence, just to make my point ;-)
But then again pre-existing mental or emotional problems were probably as much to blame for much of the fun (and misery) that we've had. The brain altering chemicals just made us more susceptable. We all have our poisons.
Mine's a southern comfort in a tumbler with ice.
Cheers.

Weed will only induce psychosis if you were already vulnerable to developing psychosis. For someone who has this happen, they could possibly have gone their whole life without their predisposition to mental health difficulties ever having been noticed.
Also, you should NEVER take weed or drugs if you suffer any kind of anxiety disorder. It will make stmptoms many times worse, even if it doesn't seem that way at first (I speak from experience here).

Many of my friends still smoke weed... the worst ones are directionless and stuck in dead end jobs, with no real ambition to rectify their situations.
Weed does make users apathetic.... it makes people aim low, I've seen it happen to a lot of people I care about.

I have many friends who smoke pot regularly and not a single one is crazy (okay they're not sane, but they haven't been sectioned yet).
Unfortunately there will always be those people who suffer the worst effects of whatever they do. Those who drink occasionally and develop liver cirrhosis, those who have never smoked a cigarette, but get lung cancer or emphysema etc.
I’m sure that mental health issues affect very few pot smokers, but because it’s fairly unusual it is used to get everyone riled and terrified.
Considering that it has only been illegal for 80 years and the cotton growers were those influential for outlawing its use (hemp competed with cotton), I suggest that it is no more dangerous than other legal substances.

I think you find it CAN lead to mental health problems, but doesn't for everyone....

You might also find that the longer you smoke it the worse you become... in terms of bad memory etc...

You might find you are "storing" up trouble.... As you age, memory deteriorates anyway... I think you might find yours will be more shot of pieces than someone who doesn't smoke it regularly. If you are susceptible to mental health problems smoking cannabis CAN exacerbate it.

I DID treat several young lads who HAD mental health problems thought to have been "triggered" and "caused" by cannabis... problems like depression, paranoid thought, and memory problems.

It can depend on your genetic predisposition towards mental illness but alas no-one finds out whether their pot smoking will lead to psychosis due to predisposition until they try it and by then it's too late. Best steering clear.

no i beleive that it doesn't. in fact i have bi-polar issues and it seems to help me out when i'm having mood swings, just brings you back down to earth. it's not addictive and i can stop anytime, but why when it makes me feel better, it's a natural herb with no addatives so i don't see why not! i think cigarrettes are way worse and additive, i don't smoke cigs!
