People feel better when the self-pity or think negatively for two reasons. For one thing, they are in a space which, for them, is familiar. And the other reason is that they are getting something from the negativity. Sometimes, it's pity from another. And sometimes, they have a martyr mentality where they believe that if they are shown to suffer that others might look up to their suffering. Of course, that is seldom the case, but the victim and martyr mentality remains nonetheless.

Because you lower your expectations and as many people say, "prepare for the worst". But what most people don't get is that they are actually attracting the worst by focusing on the negative things of situations.
It is a very negative circle that people just gets used to... it is easier, but on the long run, the worst option.

You know I have asked that question to myself a number of times, I wonder why I live in the pity pot...and the answer I have come up with is that ppl, like me, with a low self esteem, find that it is a sense of normalcy to be in the pity pot, to talk negatively about ones self, to have self pity. If we were to talk good about ourselves, and say that we were worth something, we would have to get out of the pity pot and move on. I know for myself I want ppl to feel sorry for me because I can get attention, you Know poor Gina, and then ppl will spend time out of their days to help me....which makes me feel important. If I cant get positive attention I will go for what I can get.....The is the way I used to be, until one of my friends called me on it....she said come on Gina....stop the bull and be yourself, like yourself...and stop laying in you own self pity....and I realized she was right...and to be honest I feel so much better when I can say good things about my self, my self esteem has risen and I fet positive attention with out even having to try and get it...Im not seen as a cry baby and a poor soul, I am seen as the funny outgoing Gina and I like that much better

I would answer but you probably would ignore it.
Most people ignore what I say.
I might as well never give an opinion.
It's not like anyone really cares anyhow.
It's not like I have any friends to talk to or anything.
WHY DO I EVEN BOTHER!!
