Very few of our hymns reflect this shift in understanding God.
MANY hymnals are as OLD as futile and faulty TRADITIONS.
Should churches trash the hymnals to get into AD->goes fwd?

POINT: Legalism, sin IMPutation, and sacrifice are OLD, FAULTY, AND DEADLY; Not to mention the entire Bible is "allegory" and "mystery" as defined therein, so not to be taken literal nor historical. For Christ's sake ppl it's 2007AD--->only goes one way, to the grace us end already written:
The grace(only) of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Horses for courses. A lot of older horses still like the older courses and many have given up jumping the fences. No reason why the colt and filly of today shouldn't run their own race.

Since God hasn't ever changed, why do we have to change the way we worship Him?
Yes, the songs in the Hymnal are old and TRADITIONAL, but that's what keeps things going, or, I guess you could say what keeps you anchored in your faith.
By the way, just because there is a "theological revolution" goin' on, doesn't always mean it's a good thing. If the songs that have worked for 100 years don't work with your new theology, then maybe there's something wrong with your theology, not the songs.
As for TRADITION, doesn't your family or maybe a group of your friends have traditions? Aren't those TRADITIONS a comfort at times. Sure, sometimes they're boring and you wonder "why do we have to do this again!?" But there comes a time when they are also a comfort! Right?
They're also a good foundation.
How firm a foundation ye saints of the Lord!!
Keep the foundation!!

If you pay attention the the words of a hymn you will notice that 99 percenct of hymns come from verses in the Bible with music added to them.

A lot of churches, most even, don't sing hymns anymore.

My church is more contemporary, but I do love hymns. The form of worship, however, has changed. Most classic hymns were written with the aim of teaching the common man in the church theology, that's why they're so doctrine-heavy. Now theology is hardly taught in most churches. Sad.

the more i read and study the word, the more i see truth in the hymns of old... their words embrace the truth of the Word. songs are songs.... not traditions, persay.

I prefer to have a blend of the new and the old songs in worship.... as a musician, i value the harmony and blends of the hymns... and love the challenge of the newer songs and dischords
