On a recent trip for an oil change a mechanic suggested that the squeaking was a result of maladjusted belts (2), further noting that a adjustment is ~ $ 50.00 per belt. Does this sound accurate? The car ~ 130,000 miles and since I have had it (~ 94,000 miles) I have never had these adjusted. The squeaking has gotten progressively worse or the last few weeks, I want to keep this ride as long as possible but would like to avoid being taken for a ride! Any help is greatly appreciated.

A CAR THAT SQUEAKS WHEN YOU TURN SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR BELTS. PERIOD. IF IT SQUEALS WHEN YOU ACCELERAT5E, THEN I WOULD SAY TO CHECK YOUR BELTS. IF IT SQUEALS WHEN YOU TURN, I WOULD TELL YOUR MECHANIC TO CHECK THE BEARINGS, MAYBE YOUR BRAKE PADS, BUT YOUR BELTS NO.

Squeak when turning? This sounds like struts that have seals getting dried out. No way should you pay $50/belt(that's ridiculous!). Do you hear squealing under the hood? Squeaky strut seals are NOT a hazard! Best to you! ;-)=

Sounds like belts...... If u want it around as long as possible get it checcked out and fixed. Broken belts can cause big problems. Trust me, I have been carless for 2 weeks cause my timing belt snapped and caused two other things to break, including my water pump!!!!!

have your husband find the tension pully....loosen it...adjust it (not too tight or bearings will start to fail in the different components) then re tighten the bolts....should take about 5 to 10minutes..

Take it back to country of origin, maybe you'll get a reasonable quote there.
