The same happened to me 12 years ago and I haven't been able to drink it since. I mentioned it to my doctor who simply said that it is quite common to develop a wine allergy (red or white or both though red is most common) particularly if you have been a regular wine drinker in the past. My theory is that I used up my lifetime's supply of wine units early in life & now have to stick to beer!

Yes, you can develop allergies. I have an allergy to dogs that comes and goes. Sometimes I sneeze and other times I don't. I must be doing something else different on those days that I'm fine, but I can't pinpoint it.
I know that some wines will make me all congested and get a headache. Depends on the brands.

Yes. You can develop an allergy or an intolerance to anything at any age. You might want to, first, be sure that WHERE you are drinking the wine, now, does not have other allergens. Are you drinking where people are smoking, etc.? Are you drinking it while eating food that you may have a reaction to? I developed an allergy to wine in my late 20's. It started making me very headachy, and gave me an all over stuffy feeling.

It sounds like an allergy, experiment by not drink red wine for a week and see if your symptoms improve. Then go back on the red wine and if the problems come back then you know for certain it is the red wine and not some other cause.

I would stop drinking the wine and go to the doctor, explain the symptoms to him or her and they will probably send you for some allergy tests, it might be something that is added to the wine that you are allergic too. But don't worry about it,just go and find out as it will put your mind at rest.

Sounds like you could have picked up a bug, then again depending on how much red wine you have been drinking, the tannin it red wine can affect the kidneys and give similar symptoms as you describe.
Remedy stop drinking red's for awhile.
If you are at all concerned seek medical opinion we can only speculate , cheersâ¥

Headaches can be an allergic reaction to the sulfites in red wines or the release of high levels of serotonin...

Many people will experience nasal congestion and mild flushing of the skin within minutes of ingesting alcohol and some wines have a high concentration of histamines...

it could easily be an allergy, and it could get worse each time until you finally land in the hospital with severe anaphylaxis. Suggest you switch to white.
