You should look up everything you can about the breeds by going online.. Try using google type in breed info.

Once you find what type of dog you want or is best for you.. I would try and look up rescues and animal shelters to see if there is any avaible...

Some smaller breeds you might want to look in to..

Yorkie (mother has 2 of them)
There very playful and loving.. They live about 14-15 years.. They come in a liot of differnt sizes so you can pick the weight your looking for..

Min Pinns are very cute and good name is "killer" lol
The only thing about min pinns is that they are very proctive and dont realize there so small...

Jack Russell terrier
But i dont know alot about them but, i see alot of them in apartments...

Either way good luck with your choice

We've got a whole pack of dogs (seven) of all breeds and sizes. The best small breed that I have found is the Toy Rat Terrier. Because they are a "working/hunting" dog breed, they are very smart and unlike many small dogs (especially terriers and chihuahuas) our ratties are not huge barkers. The best thing about them is that they are totally devoted and well adjusted. They LOVE the kids sooooo much, and vice versa. They also have few health issues and they are little toughies who can hold their own with our two German Shepards and our Husky. All of my life, I've wanted a pug because they are so cute, but the minute I met our first little girl rattie I was hooked and I never looked back. Be warned though, there is a saying among rat terrier enthusiasts: they are like potato chips. One is never enough. That's how great they are. We have two: Idgie (or as we like to call her Idginator the Princessinator) and Brandy (or Bran Muffin).

How old are you?

You ask for help and then put many restrictions on your question.

You are asking for help with a dog that will be no larger than 5-6 pounds - This limits your options greatly. You only have a few choices - Yorkie, Maltese, Mini daschund, (sp) & chihuhua manybe one or two other breeds.

Then you talk about getting a husky? Don't they get up to 40 - 50 + pounds?

So what do you really want?

My advise is to check out a dog breeds book from the library and read up on the breed you want before you get the dog.

We have a Toy Fox Terrier. They are small, spry dogs with lots of personality. Our is named Max. He weighs about 11 pounds or so, but he's on the bigger side of the breed. Also the kids give him table scraps when I'm not looking.
He is fantastic with our kids, and is a great watch dog. He's not bad with other dogs, although he seems to think that he's a Great Dane, as he is utterly fearless when it comes to staring down bigger dogs.
He was easy to get house broken, and rarely has an accident. He used to go to the office with my wife (it was a dog friendly office).

Who cares about the worthless points - I'm more concerned with advising you about getting a dog - a companion that will be with you for the next 15 years. Points - bah!

From your posting name, you seem to want a piece of living jewelry - not a real pet. Kinda shallow my dear.

THat said, remember that the toy breeds - and pick one - any one - are still dogs. In fact, they are mostly big dogs in very tiny packages.

Which means that you will absolutey HAVE to take your dog to obedience class, discipline him, train him, play with him and do all the things that you would with your big dog - except that Bruiser is a very small dog.

Your best bet for any dog - go to the shelter and pick one out. That way he'll be over the chewey stage - which will save your Prada's - He'll also come neutered (or spayed if it's She) up to date with shots, pretty much house-broken (although you can train your Toy Dog to use a kitty-pan for his bathroom) and at least started on obedience training.

If you want a pure-bred - every AKC recognized breed has a rescue group. Look them up on the "net" and go from there.

I'd say this to anyone who really wants a dog - of any size.

I highly recommend a Cockapoo. I have a 1 year old girl . I've had her since she was 2 1/2 months. They are just adorable and loveable dogs. They sare easily trained, obedient, very friendly, loves to play, charming, loyal, they love attention, patient, very very alert, they aim to please. The only little thing (you might call a problem) that I have with her is that she has a bit of separation anxiety and that is fine for me because I am just as attached to her as she is to me. They are great with kids. I don't have any kids in my house, but when the neighborhood kids come to play with her, she just jumps for joy. They rarely shed, and have a an easy to maintain coat that can be curly or wavy.

Toy poodles are good 6-8 lbs and miniature poodles are actually better 10-15 lbs. Their only draw backs are arthritis when they get older. Grooming is not that bad. You do need them clipped about every 3 weeks and if you keep them in a short saddle cut or lamb cut they will be easier to brush and wash. I have a miniatur poodle and he is great! Barks when people come to the door but he loves everybody! I wash him every 2 weeks and brush him about every 2 to 3 days. I clip my dogs coat myself and his nails. When I clip him he has the 60's style "Bolero" cut / jacket around shoulders and front legs, face and neck clipped way down and back and stomach cut way down. I leave him some "pants" lol that just cover his legs and his hindend and his private areas are clipped way down and feet and leave him with a pom pom on the top of tail. I leave him his top notch and long ears.
I have raised Poodles most of my life. I'm not a breeder but have had poodles as pets for many years. Miniatures are more sturdy around kids especially little kids and toys are good for older kids 12 and up. Males are more docile and easier to travel with and take care of. Good luck finding your pet. Oh, and by the way, they don't shed and are hypo allergenic!
Poodles come in many different colors, white, apricot, red, chocolate, black, and then there are the parti-colors or two colored such as black and white, apricot and white, chocolate and white, and very few are apricot and black or chocoalte and apricot.

My friend has a Miniature Pincer and she has three kids the oldest being 7yrs old. The dog gets along with them great. Min Pins are hyper little dogs and so are most kids so they have a fun time chasing kids around and playing. He seems to be a good dog and she has had him since he was a pup.

I would go with a Havanese, they are wonderfull with people and love the attention. They get to be about 6 or 7 pounds and have this amazing attachment and temperment.

You can get a daschound. It is small and it is short haired. A miniature doberman pincher is also a good choice. Also short haired and small. And yes, they can get along well with kids.
