tonks_this is where you get things wrong. You say that if I rat the bible find fault then surely I will.
The same logic goes for someone wanting to not find fault? Your motivation to believe in god for comfort and an afterlife is far greater than mine to simply fins what is true. Why would I not want to find that there is a god and I will get a great afterlife? Why? There is absiolutely no evidence for this, as much as I'd love to have a great afterlife I cannot pretend to myself that I believe as I don't.

I was brought up as a Methodist and attended regular Sunday school classes as a child. Christianity, as taught, never resounded in my heart and the older I got, the more questions and inconsistencies I found. In my journey toward faith, I read the Bible, the Qur'an, the Noble Eightfold Path and looked at Wicca and other pagan faiths. In the end I just considered what I believed in my heart, looked around at what I'd seen and started referring to myself as an animist.

If you read the bible to find fault or to improve your atheistic propositions, you will surely end up not believing. The bible is foolishness to those who are unbelieving but a power to salvation to those who believe. It is one thing to just merely being confused and wanted real answer to life's questions, it's another thing to brag about one's unbelief. There is really nothing to brag about unbelief. Why are people so eager to write God off when the fact that as of now, we are the only known planet where life exists? Isn't the diversity of life itself an evidence that life is not at all an accident? What is there in the bible or Jesus that makes atheist so eager to point their stiff finger for any fault? What does atheism has to offer though? Most often it is hope that we need. Amidst the perplexities of life, hope is fragile. It is easily puffed out by unbelief.

Yes. I read the Qur'an in full. It's not that I don't BELIEVE - it's more that I don't AGREE. I was raised with certain beliefs that I find contradict most doctrine. I don't blame my parents for this, I just find that my life is better with God but no doctrine. I'm still working on the God part, though.

I've read the 1st four books of the OT and I've read the full "book of revelations", after I became an Atheist.
Everything else I read, was from skipping around, but I've read quite a lot .
Also I've heard just about every single bible story from church & my parents.

Was a believer, read the bible (actually three times all the way through), now an atheist.
Added: I saw contradictions, had questions, the questions went unanswered, I studied other religions, researched the history of christianity and finally found that god does not exist.

I have read the Qu'ran. My husband who is a Muslim convert did alot of research and read the Bible and the Qu'ran. He found so many contradictions and too many different altered versions of the Bible. He has read the Qu'ran twice and I hope to start reading it again soon.

I have gone through the whole bible and realized that I do not appreciate God as much as I should. It's a good read and I whole heartily recommend it to others. I read it daily and it builds me up and assists me on the road of life.
