Its an imprinted natural response that we have in our brain. You naturally start at the top of anything and work your way down, its just the way we are. It goes back to the dawn of time, its inherited response you don't even think about but just do. For this reason if you lose something and are looking in the closet for it, start on the floor and work your way up. It'll force your brain to change its inventory and you'll notice quicker if its in there. This technique is taught to military and police for when they are searching homes and such for items.

you only want to use paper as you go first page work down and so on if you started from the back at bottom and worked your way forward you would waste many pages. Languages are read like they are written. And the front would be at the end and vise verse.
