To be a martyr is the ultimate sacrifice for our living God. However, God does not require us to do this. Jesus died for all of us, then, in theory, me giving up my life would be just within reason!!
This type of question is very hard to answer though, as you cannot say, "Yes, I would die for my faith as I follow it and it is my religion." until you are actually in that position.
I would like to think that I would sacrifice my life rather than give in to hostile demands against my faith or mbe forced to do something agaisnt my God. But then again, that is just what 'I would like to think....'

It really depends on the level of the persons faith and the interpretation they take from there scriptures.
For example JW's would prefer to die then accept a blood transfusion becasue they believe the soul is carried through the blood and believe if they accept a transfusion they will not be able to live for ever on paradise on earth. So for a JW the thought of dying in this age is a sacrifice worth making as it will enable them to have an enternal life when the 'end' comes.
It really depends on whether they believe the act of dying will be of worse consequence then what they would recieve by sacrificing themself...
very tricky question and one that is open to people own religious views

If you really want to understand why people would die for what they believe in, try think of what you would of done had you been born in 1920. Would you have sat back and done nothing to stop the Nazis? Or would you have risked dying to protect the freedom of this land? Or if not that, would you have died to protect the ones you love?
It is only through beliefs in what is right that we have the courage to sacrifice our own lives. You don't need to believe in God to understand that.
But I think what you are really asking is: "Would you die for God?". My answer is yes, as I believe that God is essence of everything that is good, right and true. But you do have to be careful what you believe in, as morality warped for selfish ends can (and has) become the justification for truly evil acts.

A person's truth is worth dying for. Killing others in the name of religion is a farce and cover up for political agendas. Here is a website of 10 Iranian Baha'i women who willingly died for their faith. The focus is on Mona, 17 yrs old, the youngest and the last of the ten to be murdered for her beliefs. It's touching and beautiful. I am Baha'i. Enjoy and learn.

Most wars that have been fought in the name of religion are political rather than religious...but it is easier to blame religion as who is the scapegoat then? Having siad that...Jesus Christ died for me and it would be my choice to die for Him if I had to. The plain simple fact is though, that He would never expect me to fight in a war..............I would die rather than betray my beliefs and Faith.
Best wishes, Mike.

Even athiests will die. I think you mean martyr for, right? You will die as partly a relationship with your belief system too!
I will die eventually from my worship of Forgive Affirmed Spirit.
Death is the wages of difference, uniqueness, sense of being used up from grief within life.
We are all worthy because we cannot stop it and therefore it is meant to happen....so far.

As some others have said I will not kill for my religion but I will die for it, but I would die fighting for all of my freedoms not just for my religious ones

im a scientologist i believe if it can proved then its real. but with religious folk they believe in something that cannot even be proved. religion is something for weak minded people to have a false sense of hope in...
personally i think all religious folk should have a special island made for them so us sane people can live without hassle..

"Holy war" is a Muslim notion, no other religion has this idea (in this day and age). Killing youself (in a sucide attack) is only Martyrdom among fundamentalist muslims.
