There are no legal casinos in New York City. Gaming is illegal in the state of New York. However, gambling is legal in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Slot machines are legal in Pennsylvania and Delaware if you are planning an East Coast trip.

No casinos in the five boroughs. But there are "racinos" at Yonkers' Raceway and Monticello raceway - they're pretty much slots and video poker.
The closest "real" casinos are either Atlantic City (about a 2 hour drive south.) or in Connecticut - about a 2 hour or so drive northish.

I've seen ads for a casino at Yonkers Raceway, just outside the Bronx.

No. Relatively nearby options include Atlantic City, Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. There are various racetracks, if you're into that kind of gambling.

The only legal gambling in NYC is in off-track betting (OTB) parlors, basically big rooms full of TV's tuned to different horse races and tracks. But they always seemed kinda dingy and full of retired old men to me.
If you're in Chinatown, you can probably hustle your way into an illegal poker or mah-jong game. =)
