Just because the Mayan calender ends at that date does not mean the world will end. The Mayan people for whatever reason ceased to exist, so is it not logical to assume that when the people disappeared, then there was no one around to continue the calender?
In 1975 I was scared to death because the JW's said the world would end in the fall. Either September, October , November or December, the swore Jan 1,1976 would never come. Well guess what?

The event they fear will happen in 2012 - geomagnetic reversal - will happen, but 2012 only concerns the end of the Mayan calendar and a more accurate projection is about 3000-4000 AD.

About the same amount as had egg on their faces on January 1, 2000. There's always some doomsday prediction right around the corner.

A lot of them will have egg on their faces on December 23rd. This Mayan calendar thing (dec 21/22) has a lot of people in a tizzy.

They will do what they always do. Make some crazy irrational explanation for their mistake. Pass the collection plate around some more and invent a new END OF THE WORLD!!

I do not know when it will end. Harold Camping says that it will be sometime in that timeframe; I forget the exact date he predicts. But Harold Camping is so far out there, I would not believe him.

Fanatics never admit that they are/were wrong - it'll be simply an error in interpretation etc etc etc.
Prophecies are never 'fully understood' until after an event, when hindsight interpretation comes into full swing.
