I want to surprise my dad (who is very good) next time I see him. Are there any good books or (free) websites out there? Any strategies?

Have a look at

http://www.learnmorsecode.com/
- see if you can make any sense of that

or
http://justlearnmorsecode.com/

There's also
http://www.9bit.qc.ca/ve2crd/cours/cw_course.html
- but there seemed to be a problem with a plug - in - whatever one of those is!

Hope this helps.

you can google for morse code. learning them will require actual practice so once you get a copy of the code you can try applying it with a two way radio. mountaineering, scouting, and military books can help you also.
