Put your hand into the cage and move it closer to them, Dont take out your hand if they move away just keep doing it, IF they let you pat them dont Gently stroke there back or tummy. I would do the tumme though.

Sit by the cage and make kissing noises and talk soft to them. Say like pretty bird and stuff like that. I would always read my Budgies(parakeets) a book before bedtime! Hope i help! Anymore questions please Email me at

Well looks like I had your very same problem. Heres what you do: I spent more time then I used to with my bird. 1 hr a day devoted faithfully to him. I let him fly about the room and land where he wanted. After a couple weeks he got accustomed to coming out and began landing on my shoulder. After a while i began taking him to visit my cousins parakeets. (They have three). He slowly started to progress and he is a goo flirt with all the other keets now. Don't worry, your birds problem is not because of you, he just has to get to know you. I have had my bird for 3 years now. Good luck!

The only way is to spend more time with them. If their wings arent clipped you're going to need to take them in and have them clipped. Its basically impossible to get a bird tame when its wings arent clipped. After that, put your hand in the cage and talk to them gently, let them get used to your hand. They need to know that you're not a threat. after a few days of this you might have to gently remove them from their cage (one at a time). Get them to perch on your finger and make sure you use a command (step up, or "perch" works just fine). That way they'll learn the command and perch every time you use it. At first theyre not going to like it, but if you're persistant and patient, within a few weeks you should have tame birds. Although keep in mind that since there are 2 of them, they've probably already bonded with each other. That doesnt mean you cant tame them, it just means that for the most part they'll prefer each other.

k first of all you need to get some of their food and place it in your hand then slowly just place it near them do NOT force them and be patient this will take time the birds should slowly go do your hand and eat the food by doing this you are teaching your birds that your not going to hurt them it took my bird ONE year to be perfectly comfortable with me touching her so it takes time it wont take you that long because my budgie had a stress problem. but good luck just Imagen a 5 or 6 foot person walking all around you i don't think you would be comfortable so it takes time good luck! also no loud music it stresses them out best of luck.

if there is more than one, it's going to be a lot harder, because they'll be too bonded to eachother to bond to you. something else you may want to do is get a vet to clip their wings, it doesnt hurt them, just temporarily takes away their flight ability. okay so you've got to be VERY patient. the first couple of days, just stick your hand in there and talk soothingly (sometimes it helps to have some soft music going too). if they'll take something like millet spray from your hand, that may help too. as soon as they dont flutter everywhere when you stick your hand in their cage, you can try gently pressing your finger against their stomachs. this should cause them to step up to keep balance. dont attempt to take them out of their cage, just let them get used to sitting on your finger. after about 2 days of doing this, you can try slowly bringing them out of their cage. after that point, you just begin taking them out everyday and soon they'll be totally used to you.

Parakeet(S)? well theres your answer. When you house more than one, unless they're housed seperately & you train & tame them seperately they will prefer to bond to one another & not you.
