The last 6 digits in the VIN is the actual serial number of the car, but I believe that pertains to a particular plant. If the Mustangs are built at more than one plant you would have to research the VIN sequence for that particular plant.
If they are only built at one plant, the last 6 digits are the serial number.

When I was working at the plant we put rotation # on units to be built not by vin # whoever said the vin # was the rotation # don't know what they are talking about I worked at Atlanta Assembly Plant for 36 years and one job I had in the plant was putting vin # on the unit, After they were sent to a storage they were selected at random to enter the trim department not by Vin #, If you can look around the front bumper area underneath you might find 3 of 4 # that will be the rotation # the date will be hard to find , Just keep looking in different places . good luck

Last seven or eight VIN numbers are sequential. Now a call to ford the month and year plus a call to the plant who made the car should set you up.
