My husband wants the sporty one and I don't think it looks like a family car. Also, I heard that the spoiler on the back lowers the gas mileage. Is that true?

I currently own a 2005 LE. It is a dependable car and a "decent" way to get from A to B. I drive @20,000 miles a year and have done virtually no maintenance. Oil changes (I use synthetic every 7500 miles) and tire rotations... thats about it.

I haven't heard about the spoiler affecting mileage. I would guess that the mileage difference is more of a factor of actual mileage versus EPA estimated mileage. Unless they took the spoiler off and got better mileage - that would really be the only way to truly tell.

There are a couple of reasons to wait - a few months if you can. Likely August or September is when the 2008 models will be released

1) body re-styling
2) all 2008 vehicles are required to have ACTUAL EPA gas milage posted - not the lab created mileage.

There is typically a BIG discrepancy between the current EPA gas mileage estimates and actual mileage. Current EPA estimates are fictional lab created numbers, based on optimal running conditinos, downhill with a tailwind...

The 2005 Corolla claims that the manual transmission gets 32 mpg city / 41 mpg hwy and the automatic is slightly less. WELL with an automatic transmission - I only get about 27 City and 32 highway... I bought the vehicle primarily for gas mileage - and it is still MUCH better than our suburban!

So I am eagerly awaiting the new EPA fuel mileage guide. I may upgrade to the FJ Cruiser, not because I don't like the Corolla, but mainly because the Corolla is a bit low to the ground for me. Depends on what the REAL gas mileage is...

To boil it down - there is no main difference between the SE and the LE other than some fancy body styling and wheel packages.

OK. A couple of things. First off DO NOT buy the Toyota Corolla because in a couple of months they will be releasing the new body design. If you do not care about the body design a couple of weeks before the new body design is released the old body design will become much cheaper. The "sporty one" is nice as well as the family model. I would say if your husband is mainly driving it buy the "sporty one" if you and your child(ren) are going to be in it most get the family model. The spoiler is mainly meant for keeping you lower to the ground. If you are concern over gas mileage do not have extra weight in your car. The more weight the more gas is :guzzled" up. I hope my advice helped ;)

I think you mean the Corolla S (Sport) versus the LE. The Corolla S is strictly a cosmetic package, it is mechanically identical to the LE and rated at the same miles per gallon. If anything, the spoiler and body kit is supposed to make the car more aerodynamic which would improve fuel economy, but in reality it is just cosmetic and has no real effect.

I really suggest you get a Toyota Camry, even if you have to buy an older model to be in the same price range you're looking at. Corollas are great - if you're single or a married couple w/out kids. IMO, they are just to small if you're going to have or have a family. I can't imagine fitting two car seats in the back of one! Not to mention if you go away on a trip and need to pack some luggage. Do yourself a favor and go for the larger Camry.
