Certainly they can have alcohol - if they live in a sensible country like UK or Australia! What kind of country DO you live in where they treat adults like babies?

Talk to your local representative . It's a state issue . but the deal is this . . . The only people who really want the legal age to go down are the ones who are underage . That's a very small percentage of the population . And short-lived too , because soon enough even they become 21 and don't ever think about it again .

EDIT* - After reading the answer you got from 'CHECK' I 'checked' (pun intended) and he's right . The U.S. does have a federal law now that says you must be 21 to drink . I also learned that the U.S. has the highest drinking age in the world !!
So somewhere a new law was passed when I wasn't paying attention and that does also go to prove my previous assertion . . . . After you pass the legal drinking age , ya don't care so much anymore .

Well look at it this way.

You could have been born in a predominantly Muslim country where alcohol isn't allowed at all.

Being able to join the military and fight for your country to ensure WE don't turn Muslim will ensure your right to consume alcohol at 21.

Besides. Drinking ain't that big of a deal dude. It's like sex. Once you've had it a few times, the newness wears off. Only sex is safer.

No its not. It used to be legal when I was in for Marines under 21 to drink as long as it was on base and not off. There were bars and such and buses that came to pick them up and drop them off on Camp Pendleton. And you know the DUI rate was very very very low. Since that is no longer the case and those bars and clubs have since closed down the DUI rate has tripled from what I heard

Drinking ages are decided by the individual States. Not the Federal Government.
I suggest you call your State Legislators and Govenor...

I agree. What's even worse is that the drinking age is 3 years older than the voting age. That means that young people have to vote stone sober for 3 years. That's just not fair!

The drinking age was raised to 21 in an attempt to reduce DUI among young drivers.

not just! in all the countries of the world there is no legal drinking age up until less than 20 years ago, excluding canada and usa.

once you can have a baby you are an adult! who cares what the media tells you? secondly i dont know of anyone that waited to turn 21 to drink.

13 is the age where people turn to adults, there have been 13 year old kings of entire countries in the worlds history.

Serving your country at 18 and being able to drink at 18, are two MAJOR different things. Some young adults who decide to be apart of the military are complete air heads, and by joining- it straightens them out, allowing them to become resposible young adults. Some bases do allow military personnel (18 and up) to drink while on base; when off base-it is a no go.

Even though it still happens, not every 18 year old is responsible when it comes to drinking. So yes, it is fair.

What's wrong with waiting until 21 to have your first drink?

I'm amazed David M is a top contributor! His answer is absolutely 100% incorrect! It is FEDERAL law in the US that the legal age for possession or consumption or alcohol is 21. End of story.

How about making the drinking age 18, but the military enrollment age 25? And keep recruiters off of high school and college campuses altogether? I'd say at 25 you'd have a better idea how valuable your life is, how mortal you really are. Maybe at 25 you could make a better educated decision about joining, versus falling for a recruiter's pitch about "seeing the world" or "paying for college" and next thing you know you're starring in "Vietnam 2" only it's real and you're getting shot at.
