The soul is the essence of who you are- it is the deity that is the aggregate of your personality, your interests, passions, feelings, and experiences that make you who you are more than the physical being, the looks that you were granted at birth that you have no real control over.
The body is just a home, a shell for the soul, the body is what gives the soul physical presence, it allows the soul to exist while at the same time trapping it into the physical
restrictions of life, such as our short life spans. The soul is amorphous, an entity that cannot be validated by the five senses but exists in the realm of some other sense.

This is quoted from the BEST BLOG (from my point of view):
"What about the soul? You must understand first that the soul is not the spirit and the spirit is not the soul.
(Hebrews 4:12) “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
The spirit and the soul can be divided or separated by the word of God. What is the soul then?
(Genesis 2:7) “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
The union of the flesh or dust from the ground with the breath of life is what became a living soul. Your entire being plus your emotions, memory and faculties is the soul. If someone dies the soul is in the hand of the Creator, The entire being of a man is in the hand of God after death, and will remain under God’s power until the resurrection to face judgment.
(Job 12:10) “In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.”
This gives us peace of mind for we know that the souls of our dearly departed are in the hands of God. "

Your ' soul' is YOU.
God created Adam as ' a living soul'
the word ' soul' is translated from the Hebrew word NEPHESH meaning ' that which breathes'
animal also ARE ' souls'
(Genesis 1:20) And God went on to say: “Let the waters swarm forth a swarm of living souls and let flying creatures fly over the earth upon the face of the expanse of the heavens.”
Souls can die...And you have to be alive to die.
(Revelation 16:3) And the second one poured out his bowl into the sea. And it became blood as of a dead man, and every living soul died, [yes,] the things in the sea.
(Ezekiel 18:4) Look! All the souls—to me they belong. As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son—to me they belong. The soul that is sinning—it itself will die.
You have to be alive on the earth to sin.

First of all, we are taught that we are not this material body. The body is only a temporary vehicle for the eternal soul, part of the Supreme Soul, God, or Krishna. Though we (souls) are tiny and God is infinite, we share to a limited degree His qualities of being eternal, full of happiness, and full of knowledge. Our original, or constitutional, nature is to serve God in the spiritual kingdom.

A wishful thought. I think the soul is a superstition in a literal sense. It could have a metaphorical meaning like, "Pour your heart and soul into it," but in real life there is no evidence of a soul.

A soul is something that's imaginary and doesn't exist. Just like god, heaven, and hell.
